Well, you made a nice neat job of that. Is this for a "here's the liner, let's build a tunnel around it" project, or will you slide this inside one already on the layout?

Thank you! I’m going to place it and do a plaster cloth build up around it. I guess from your photo it appears to be entirely encased more or less inside the mountain.

The last one I did I left it slightly exposed so I could enjoy the fruits of my labor. The kits are around 100$ plus the build. I hate to bury the entire thing in the mountain. So maybe not completely prototypical but then again neither is 3 rail.

How close to the edge of the layout is the planned tunnel? If close enough, folks could see see the tunnel detail pretty well. I have a tunnel viewable on the layout; I put a liner in it I made using brick paper. Looks sharp for what it is, and folks usually compliment it. It only goes back ten inches or so, but far enough that you can’t really see where the liner ends.

Both are a little less than 2’ back from the front fascia so it’s easy to see the timbers. Here’s a couple shots. They are about 12-14’ apart so it looks pretty cool watching the train come out of the longer mountain and then back in again.

Okay, so the "liner" actually juts out from the end of the bore itself. That's interesting; I've not seen that before. Is that done for snow-shed purposes?

Well the real answer is maybe and I don’t know
The left tunnel is placed, I like the look of it slightly protruding from the mountain. The new one is not set yet and will likely be recessed by 2/3rds or so into the mountain. Begs the question as to why I didn’t build one cut it in half and save the money for something else. So it goes.

Every time I go out to work on this I think I’m almost done, not so. Lots of details that take patience that I’m running out of. I made the roof removable which I don’t like because it doesn’t want to sit flat in all areas. However in the rare event someone would want to see inside I’d like to be able to show them since that is a large part of the details. I’m thinking of lighting it so maybe that will allow the viewer to see the inside without removing the roof.

Not a bad idea - Evans Design stuff, maybe - hide the switch somewhere...

Got an old Max Gray PRR N6b caboose on the way. It'll go good with my Saginaw N6a and the handfull of Walthers PRR cabooses I seem to have around. Think I have some KTM elliptical spring trucks I can put on it if those are similar to the correct PRR trucks. Guess I need to research that lol.

Hmmmm..........I was looking at one of those, maybe that one in fact, but decided I had enough work vs. price tag.

Nope. Not KTM elliptical spring trucks. Those take a PRR caboose truck that has a large single center spring. AFAIK, PSC is the only source.
