Yeah, Hondo, the faux tinplate station could be epic if it works out. There are a few issues I have no fix for after assembly, but I think they won't be horrifically obvious (or maybe they will, but I won't give a hoot). Anyway, started cobbling together a base from shop scraps:



Somehow, it always feels more satisfying when you make something from nothing, lol. Thank God I have a decent miter saw. Wish I still had access to The Old Man's thickness planer though.

I had a Bachmann wood side dump car that dumped off the track one day and was pretty much destroyed. I am finding that I need lighter in weight rolling stock for this On30 branch line because of the grade. I like the quirkiness of this branch and the On30 offerings so I decided to scratch build a hack and use the truck from the wood sided dump car. This is what I have so far.

Thanks! I can’t remember where I heard that so I had to look it up aka google This is what I found in the glossary of RR terms. I believe to the passer by the caboose was this really cool car to be in but in reality I think it sucked if you were stuck in that thing Crummy may also be a give away that it was less than desirable





So in short Paul if you got banished to the crummy that was like getting detention

Got it, and thanks; I was unfamiliar with that term. I got a look at the inside of a CSX car once years ago, a former Western Maryland caboose that was still in service some twelve years or so after CSX’s formation. It was filthy inside, but at the time I chalked it up to age and likely disuse.

I once watched hot water on ogr chastise another member because he ‘romanticized’ working on the railroad. I imagine for the most part it looked more glamorous from afar, however like any job it probably had it’s moments.
The closest I’ve been to a caboose was the red caboose motel In PA. Not really comparable to working in one. I imagine after being confined to a caboose for any length of time would make one crazy. This was long before the days of the smart phone where you had plenty of surfing to pass the time.

They are Grandt line windows and a bit crusty if I may add. I may have to re spray them.

Well, they look good. I’ve about used up my supply of Grandt bits. I’ve got a few buildings in storage, built for an old S-gauge layout; I might have to dig those out, break them down, and salvage the windows/doors.

I ordered a 200pce hodge podge box of windows, doors etc that Grandt line was offering. I really want to eventually do some free lance building if I ever quit ordering kits. I felt like it would be easier for me to see some of the window and door styles in hand to help with the construction process.
