A friend of mine, aware that I'm assembling a variation of a "Girl's Train", contributed this 6424 to the cause:

This is modern-era production, catalogued in 2003 or 2004. I'll be the first to admit it's kinda ghastly, but it adds some play-value, I suppose.

I like it. I appreciate that Lionel trains can be very colorful.

It is quite a stretch, but the Williams H-24-66 Train Master locomotives negotiate 27-inch-diameter curves just fine.

Note: the 66 in H-24-66 means the locomotive length is 66 feet. The Williams FM Train Master is 62 feet (15.5 inches).

Wife says the cars look like Mary Kay Cosmetics sales premiums, lol.

Those are interesting door-guides on that Rock Island 6464, Wayne. Painted? Plastic? Shouldn’t they be blackened steel?

Mary Kay? :?
I googled Mary Kay and then remembered her... the Pink Cadillac cosmetics lady. :D

The door guides are plastic and painted; they are not cast with the body; they snap into the body.

It might be quite valuable.

Interesting

Lionel 6-19269 Rock Island 6464 series box car O SCALE NEW Sale price $25.00
https://bradystrains.com/products/lione ... DsfJ2o2Hh8

Except the door guides are BLACK.

So if the door guides are silver the car is worth $16,991.00

That must have been some kind of AI fart. The eBay site showed the price as $16.99.

The model in your eBay link has a plain steel bottom; the one in my photo has full brake linkage underneath. It even has brakes on the trucks.

I am not a 6464 collector but I thought all the 6464s had a plane steel bottom. the one you have must be unique.

Might be worth more money ? do you have a box for it

They are out there...see here:

More research required on this thing...might be some sort of hybrid, lol.

Ahh, thank you, Healey. I failed to record my purchase of this Lionel box car. I did not know what it was. Now I know; it is one of Lionel's Scale 1:48 products and can be found in Lionel catalogs:
2010 Volume 2 page 46,
2011 Volume 2 page 32,
2011 Signature Edition Page 49,
2012 Volume 2 pages 94-95,
2012 Signature Edition page 71,
2013 Fall Catalog page 23.

RESEARCH
Before searching through catalogs, I tried Copilot and Gemini to find information about this Lionel box car. Because so many people think all three-rail Lionel trains are 1:48 scale, the two AI search engines were totally confused and gave useless answers.

For a few years Lionel did a few “Post War Scale boxcars”. Might be one of those. They are larger than the traditional 6464s so placing this car next to a traditional car would verify that.
Here you go.

It is. Thank you for posting the link, Pete. I was unable to find that while digging in Lionel.com.
