Now that you mention it, I see the resemblance to Sheriff Pusser. At 6 ft, 6 in the figure is the same height as Sheriff Pusser.

Oh, he's a miner...I didn't notice that in the first pic. It looked like a big guy with an ax handle, lol. That's a nice figure...where'd you find him?

MTH 30-11058 O Miners Figure Set (Set of 6)
https://www.nicholassmithtrains.com/MIN ... 058-28954/

Regarding the scale of things in the photo...
The 55 Chevy Step Side is 1:32 scale.
The miner standing in the Chevy doorway is 1:48 scale.
The 1955 Ford Fairlane is 1:48 scale.
The Trailer Train Auto Rack is 1:85 scale.

Thor Sheil used to call it "tinscale"...no fixed "scale, just whatever. Almost like the "box-scale" that the plastic model manufacturers used back in the day. They're toys...it's all good, or at least that's my two cents.

I have noticed that some MTH figures appear terrifically tall as compared to others generally considered to be 1/48.

Maybe they are all Dutch. The average height of men in the Netherlands is about 6 ft. Half of Dutch men are taller.

Maybe, although the Dutch are apparently shrinking:

I wonder what the median height of Dutch men is...

A new project, crafting a Hornby-style level-crossing for the holiday display. My first thought was to just cut the approaches from 1/4-inch masonite, but then realized I need at least 5/8-inch of elevation for the gates to be able to clear the track height. Another self-imposed requirement was to try to narrow the footprint a bit, but then the crossing's grade becomes ridiculous:

Still noodling this...

I had thought about that, along with extending it further out to get the grade down. Thanks for the suggestion.

Christmas (Orthodox or Non-Orthodox), Yule, Festivus, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, St. Nicholas Day, whatever floats your boat. Here, it's typically under or near a Christmas tree (Dec. 25th variety)

Thats great! I always knew the trick to getting the layout ready for Christmas was to start early, I guess I never realized how early

In lieu of watching the Super Bust, headed to the basement and gave the Lionel 258 a spin around the mainline; here it's seen working its way down the backside with a few 800-series freights, heading south toward the eastern end of the tunnel at Heat Pump Pass:

Guess I should go up and watch the half-time show...sounds like dem Iggles are delivering a thumpin'.

Edit :: Nope, shoulda skipped that half-time show too.
