One can only imagine but maybe it would be within a sequel to "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream".

That seems to have been composed under the influence of the "stream of semi-consciousness". We're shutting down No, wait, we're only sort of shutting down. Everything is up for sale (only no one is buying most of it). Wait, we have someone that MAY be buying it (whatever it is) but we can't say anything till later this summer (So maybe they aren't buying it?). Clear as mud.

Cest le vie.

I have a few theories:
1) These possibilities were thrown out there to create anxiety (OMG, we've got to buy this stuff now because it's going to disappear forever)
2) They reflect, as you say, a "stream of semi-consciousness", i.e. we have no idea of what is going on.
3) The closing date deadline was created to force the hand of any employees or buyers who might want the company or some of its tooling.

After further thought, I have to give Mike Wolf a lot of credit. He played his customers and the market in general like a Stradivarius. He walks away with a retirement, a streamlined (we got rid of all the parts that weren't really pulling their weight, along with any warranty boat-anchors) MTH, and high regard of his somewhat rabid  fans.

And while this reorganization has given him time to pull the oars and get out of the area where he might get sucked down with the ship, his fans have been rowing hard towards the Titanic. They are trying to get on-board; they don't want to miss the adventure.

Like I said, I have to give him credit. This is a Tom Sawyer fence-whitewash!

Or masks. Or meat. Or whatever shortage can be manufactured in short time.

That may be why there is a big push for developing Artificial Intelligence. The real stuff is in such short supply!

Had that very thought today! And now that I've exceeded my thinking allotment for the day, I'm going to spend the evening out on the deck reading and restocking.

I believe there is more to MTH's future than what was posted. When the rest of the story comes out then I'll be able to judge better. I believe there are players involved that have yet to be revealed.

Call me nuts--my wife does--but I think when the dust settles, Lionel is going to be part of the picture with some of the remaining MTH tooling.

Would not be at all surprised particularly when that release implies just that.

Totally prepared:

This is playing out like a poorly written/cast/rehearsed high school theater production.

Sorry, I think there is much less here than what meets the eye.

I was on my high school stage crew. We were very well rehearsed! LOL!

Lot's of great unknown.

No, it's really off Broadway theater of the absurd,

I'd agree except for this bit: "The as-of-now unnamed buyers of the other O Gauge tooling will be revealed later this Summer." Curious....as to the who (Godot and friends?) and what that really might include or not.
