The Modelers Thread
Re: The Modelers Thread
How in the world would you apply those minuscule eye decals?
If you go to about 11:25 in the Youtube video referenced earlier they talk about how they insert a tiny sequin to give the eyes a bit of glisten. I don't know how they manage that given the small size. The sequin idea came from one of Dopl's principals, Brian Henson, from his experience with Jim Henson's puppets.

Re: The Modelers Thread
Well, that's unfortunate but the way technology develops maybe the 1:48 figures will be feasible in the future. Fingers crossed.
Re: The Modelers Thread
Gotta expand the view...here's an outfit Sarge found in the UK that offers 3D scans that they'll print down to model railroad scale:
https://www.modelu3d.co.uk/body-scan/
So for those who want their face pasted on a 1/48 loco driver/engineer, these guys offer the opportunity (but you'll need a ticket to the UK for the session). Their figures are unpainted/colorized, however, so you'll still need to do a bit of work. Check them out, though; I agree with Sarge, they offer a lot of beautiful figures, perhaps the best around.

They are impressive but do they come painted? I’ve emailed them with no response. I see they show the figures painted and unpainted but only one price. Guessing they are unpainted at those prices.
Re: The Modelers Thread
Yes, unpainted, but there are links on their site for painting services. In the miniature wargame world, painting services are numerous, especially in the UK. You can buy your figures and have them sent directly to a guy/gal who will paint and base them for you. A friend of mine here in town offered such services but gave it up a few years ago when he had to start home-schooling one of his kids. His work was exquisite (and expensive). I had him paint a few ships for me which I use as benchmarks for what nicely-finished stuff should look like.
Re: The Modelers Thread
Probably now ten years ago there was Marce Urbanski, now passed on, of Trainsformations who who make 1/48 figures based on photos you sent her. Not as realistic as these 3d scanned and printed ones but close enough that you would recognize the person.
She also had a catalog of stock figures similar to Artisttas.
The figures in the second floor dentist office were custom made, not of a specific person, and the figures in the lower right corner are a few of her catalog figures.

Re: The Modelers Thread
Marvelous scene, Norton. Is it on your layout?
I looked to see if there was a Dr. Pullem DDS but no hits on Google. I did find a Dr. Pulliam DDS.

Re: The Modelers Thread
I don’t have an actual layout Wayne, rather just four 4’ modules I built for our modular club, FCTT-Hiralers. When not part of the club layout is serves as my test track. Here is our website.

Re: The Modelers Thread
FCTT can construct oval, 'L', and kidney shaped layouts from 12 by 16 feet to 40 by 60 feet and much larger.
Thank you for the link, Norton. I loved the photos. Those are a lot of very nice-looking modules.

Re: The Modelers Thread
Looks good, as does the rock-work, something I just can't get a handle on.
Re: The Modelers Thread
Sadly that boxcar above this hasn’t changed much
. I’ve been trying to avoid the forums lately, you know me and forums
I’m still modeling and tried to go a little more detailed on Jeffersons dry goods, my first resin kit. I used a few of the built in filters on iPhone to capture what this looks like to the naked eye or at least to me anyway. I found the standard settings made the ground cover, for example, look to yellow when in reality it doesn’t look yellow at all. I didn’t want to use AI because, well it would make it something it’s not. I’ve discovered you have to have a serious skill set to pull off realism without cheats. The detail never really ends and on multiple occasions I continued to add things, when I finally decided it’s time to move on to other things….like that boxcar

Re: The Modelers Thread
Nice job...looks terrific to me. I’m a softy for a false-front, and this one looks sharp with its narrow profile.
Glad to see you back here...thought we’d lost ya.
