So a lack of 3 rail discussion on a site where a half dozen or so people pretty much just debate politics and one or two other non-train topics means the hobby is dying but a website where there is much more actual discussion of it is a negative commentary on them?

I'm no fan of OGR and no longer participate over there but found this site to not be a better option, at least for train discussion. I pop in once a week or so, as hope springs eternal, but the topics are just not what I'm interested in.

along with all of those on the O Gauge forum. They have the same band. They all came from OGR and started their own forum

NJ,
Maybe it would help if you dropped in more often and posted some 3 R train stuff.
Why not give it a try?

I've been involved with forums for so long, they used to be printed on Mastadon hides.

Seen politics. Seen bans on anything the owner or moderator THOUGHT might be political or maybe turn into politics ina year or so. Locked threads. Banned members.

Seen exactly enough of the syrup-y sweet commentaries of folks doing their best (or worst) to be supportive and not confrontational.
Positive re-inforcement of some of the silliest modeling and automotive ideas you could ever see.

Seen folks who bygod knew what the truth was, and took postings, modified them, and sent them off to legal departments and you end up talking to lawyers. Learned early on so save it all, and NOT on the cloud.

Oh, we MANDATE you give us your real name and address or you can't log in anymore. Right. Delete account.

Seen "rules" no one could fully comply with. One site, he made rules up on the fly, so we kept lists.
He'd throw someone off for violating his "rules", so we posted not only tie and date, but the exact "rule" he'd made up long ago that allowed the action he just banned, used to pixx him off no end.

Had moderators who signed up to do marketing for one of my competitors...but on that forum, you couldn't promote businesses unless you paid for advertising. Oh, no, we allow him to do that.
Cancel advertising, delete account.

Can't stand that crxp. Nor the sweetness that is so fake.

I only do a couple of forums anymore, and drop any that are useless.

I could get specific on names of forums, but other than my long-standing OGeR account, where I came back when I started resurrecting the basement, and ran into the real name BS, no.
Oh, they said, nobody else has any problem with that. Maybe nobody else ever had an identity theft issue. I did.
The bad guys look to gather enough information to use your identity or hack you...there is a lot out there, but Floe Ice as a town kind stops that.

Phone number required?
Easy.

202-456-1414

Been using that for years and years. Go ahead, sell my data to phone scam marketers. See if I care. See what the Secret Service cares about when you spam call the White House Switchboard.

Dave,
One thing I enjoy about MTJ is that there don't seem to be any real rules and most users are self disciplined enough to allow the forum to operate.

I got banned from the Fiero forum, they have a system where people can give your post a negative and when you reach a certain number your automatically banned. I never checked and they had a anything goes forum where I posted political stuff.
I go on a big popular forum daily with forums on many topics. The LA and California along with others get heated and I have gotten several infractions. I really like this forum and don't want to get banned and have learned to be careful. It's heavily moderated and some guys get away with murder while I have gotten a couple of undeserved infractions.

Roger, Please take a minute and explain to me what it is that is "fun" about a bunch of mean spirited horsesh*t.

I'm thinking of how a misspelled or misused word can be interpreted in a fun or funny way.

What I'm saying is there is no reason to "spotlight" an obvious typo that everyone knows is just that, except maybe on the slim chance it actually is funny!
