Hey, if Aristotrash could do the Eggliner in #1 gauge, why not? Shades of Kughn..."money to be made!"
I have a friend who went from 100% postwar Lionel to whatever he could buy that was more to his prototype.
He, local hobby shop, and I gutted the control and sound systems, installed (usually) a DCRU, and they ran just fine...no programming, no dead batteries, no wiring failures, no PRC circuit boards.
I am trying to think if I have any modern horse manure electronics...and I don't think so. I do have ACRU's, several, mostly in All-Nation 3-rail NW's. (the horizontal Thomas e-units were ridiculous in operation).
I have three All-Trols.
ZW, KW, 1033's......
Hey, Walthers made shorty passenger cars like that...Oscar and Piker. I have one on the shelf in 3-rail wheels and couplers...

Yes, I had one of the shorties of Walthers in the early 1950s.

and I suppose it really whizzes me off in ANY scale/gauge to have to pay a premium for PRC garbage with electronics I have to cut-and-throw to go conventional with an added DCRU.
I can go buy a postwar unit now for a fraction of the new stuff with electronics, even if I have to repaint and re-letter.

The Williams by Williams locos were great for me.

Somebody spent valuable tooling $$ on this?![]()

Agreed. Lionel is pandering to traintards with execrable taste. Along with RMT's eggliners, a perfect candidate for the pitching machine aimed at the cinderblock wall.

Agreed. I have 4 of them. Smooth runners made even better with TMCC.

This is the first time I've noticed Lionel offering sets with LionChief Plus. In this case, LC+2.0. The 0-6-0T sets, and GG-1 set, are offered this way. The other sets are just ordinary LionChief.
Does the Strasburg Railroad actually pull nineteenth-century platform coaches with a USRA 0-8-0 switcher? The Lionel clerestory cars look nicely painted, but archbar trucks? Lionel has tooling, for proper wood beam trucks.

I thought it was a good catalog but having so much ordered from Volume 1, I just can't drop more $$ this year. The Bush Funeral set is inviting both cost and look wise.
