and MS keeps blaming others for the MS failings. This one now is supposed to hinge on Group Editor settings.

I hate ten. I have 5 computers here (including this one) with XP. One test unit with Ubuntu.And a laptop with XP-8 (8, now 8.1, that looks and functions like XP).


I was very recently given a Dell Laptop with 10. Been playing with it. Who in their right mind accepts this BS? Where is "desktop" icon? Now it's on the taskbar.

So far, updates are killed, dead.
Cortana killed.
Used about:config and killed telemetry (MS's way of tracking everything you do).
Edge dead.
Windoze mail, dead.

Normal desktop icons for all I need.

Still the absolute stupidity to find program files and such. So freaking intuitive in XP.

Is it usable with all the BS killed or disabled? Somewhat.

Then you get into Firefox Quantum, and those morons decided what I need and don't need, and none of the add-ons I use will even load.

I have FF 12.0 on this desktop...I may load that just because.

Everybody thinks updates are good. They are not.

Nobody remembers the 95, 2000, ME, XP, Vista and even 7, where we would refuse updates, wait a week, look them all up and find which ones failed, and load the rest.

Same BS, different OS, and if you look back on all the issues mandatory updates have caused since 10 release, you'd be looking at doing something else.

Just before I did the update killing, went to shutdown, and it wanted to load the newest update that was held on-board....hard shutdown, next time it was on, cleared all temp files, then killed all updates.

Have not noticed any issues with Firefox Quantum; can't stand IE and Chrome.......

Nobody remembers the 95, 2000, ME, XP, Vista and even 7, where we would refuse updates, wait a week, look them all up and find which ones failed, and load the rest.

Not really true; many remember, but few stayed behind - I'm still using 7 and and I have XP on a laptop so I can run 1 piece of software that I'm unwilling to spend $1000's for on a yearly license. I also have 1 computer around that;s stuck using 98 since the software is locked to that..... I would not have Vista or 8 ever. I also have 7 on my brand new computer........

Win 10 is on the computer at my office, but I have zero choice with that so if it craps out, not my problem...

That was a history lesson. They (MS) have done buggered updates since day one.
And nobody remembers. This current bodge with 10, folks act like it's all new...never happened before.

Obviously you don't use a lot of add-ons. Try to get Classic Theme Restorer to load.
Try to get add-on toolbar (on the bottom) to load.

I can give you a non-comprehensive list, just easier to say Mozilla has decided what you will and will not use.

I use 52ESR on XP (last one) and THEN we has a compatibility check add-on to kill Mozilla's refusal...not any more.

Big Brother is watching out for you.

Another waste and unnecessary - I've found that most add-ons, etc. are a total waste and only add on problems that I don't need - stripped most out years ago and keep it that way

Not run into anything limiting yet and I use what I want to use.....but then again, I don't use a lot of nonsense and foolishness. I keep everythiung pretty basic.

I don't even know what IE I have since I so rarely really use it other than to open some files that it works for vs. other software tha tI'm too lazy to load.

Well that certainly is true. You never load the x.0 of ANY Microsoft update.

Interesting synopsis. So, others want it, you don't, therefore all is well with the world.
Entertaining theory, anyway.

Personal computer. Simple concept. If you want something else on yours, that's your problem, not mine. Mine are built for me and I decide what goes on them to do what I need them to do. Other stuff is excess to my needs, clutter up everything, waste memory, etc. and generally provide more ways for more to go wrong. When I started back in main frames I learned to minimize exposure and the unnecessary; install what's needed and eliminate the rest.
