Finally good spray paint at a 20th century price

Bob T mentioned Quick Color flat black in one of his post. Found some at Home Depot, aka The Despot, for $2.98. At that price I had to experiment. It is an enamel. I sprayed it on bare brass, Taniya primed brass, and scale coat painted brass. Absolutely no Orange peel on any of the pieces and it was a true flat. Adherence on bare brass was OK, but excellent on the other pieces. Drying time to handle was 20 minutes, bear in mind outside temp in the 90s. Went on well in this god forsaken Texas humidity. Hand painted Future/Pledge glosss acrylic without a problem.
Discovered Quick Color gloss black as well. Sprayed it on Tamiya primed brass. The finish is a very high gloss akin to Scalecoat gloss black. Drying time seems much longer. 11 hours later and still some fumes. I have not tried to bake it yet.
Per the Despot website there is are other colors, I have seen only black at the store. Reminds of the Model T, you can have any color as long as it is black.

Thanks for that information. You never know where you'll find good paint and with the cost of the "known" paints this is refreshing.

I'm needing some rattle can Harbor Mist Gray and searches haven't turned any up. I've got a can that is 20-25 years old and haven't tested it, but I need to paint some P&D brass trucks. Maybe brass trucks would be a good time to learn how to use jar paint and an air brush.

Little gray cells started working and I remembered I once bought a can of Harbor Mist Gray. So, started digging and found I have an almost new spray can of Scale coat 1 Harbor Mist Gray. I think this project is supposed to happen.

Best of luck on it - I've found these old spray cans of Scale coat to be pretty long lived. But I'm about out of them myself now.....1-3 more projects and they'll all be gone off the shelf.
