As if anyone cares about that these days, or much less that I could do about it, “being done online”.

The stories I could tell you about image piracy on Meta Facebook, and does Meta do a damn thing? Hell no… the fraud and pirate groups, using harvested content like images and getting paid through monetized groups on Facebook; why, It’s a billion dollar industry. Meta Business Suite rewards the group owners after they get clicks, comments, views, and the all important secret sauce, reshares. Where they get the content that Meta pays them for is completely irrelevant. You need good stuff, so go steal it! Here on MTJ, Flickr, some dumb sucker like me that shares his work in a dead end, like my un-monitized Instagram account now punished by my lack of a business account, it’s not free, the result is, I’m suppressed from views with the legitimate material and irregardless because, I’m not paid. But these pirates screen shot my work here and there and share it in front of their groups with 1000’s of members or more. And the cycle continues and they grow and get paid for using my work at times, $3-$6k a month depending on the size of their audience.

What can I do? Hire a you at $500 an hour and a retainer for $4k, right, no, but Meta has a pathetic copyright infringement policy form I need to provide links to the original, which at times is impossible since I’m limited on space on my free un-monitized account and cycle my work, and I discover the theft months later. I’ve only had one removed out of reporting 40-50 since 2023. It’s such a toxic, awful place, Facebook, any social platform, TikTok, What’sAap, all of them. These damn pirates know I can’t do a thing about it. So I resort to protest on the posts with my stolen work and attack them publicly with comments and other statements like, “This is my photo, remove it!”, and Meta retaliates and limits my access even more through the social credit scoring. I get punished for being in violation of Meta’s community standards. A year ago I was locked out of my account 3 times with 48 hour limits because pirate group owners report me for violating Meta standards. And when I’m let back on the algorithm suppresses, limits me; often times even my own followers can’t see my posts anymore. I get 3 likes and 40 views, when I should see 200-300 likes and 1000’s of views, I had 5000 friends. Screw Facebook, It is awful.

I have legions of evidence for you to prove my point and nothing at this point will ever change my mind regarding the state of theft and piracy on social media platforms. Harvesting is carried out everywhere, including Flickr. I left Meta over it among other things notwithstanding and I'll never go back. Those watermarks and hate to use them, however desperate times require desperate measures. There was a time when I shared anything at a higher resolution without any name at all; you can go see those for yourself on my Flickr account prior to last year.

The theft and piracy issues on Meta coincided with the rebrand of Meta and I suspect along with a lot of other predatory practices we've come to expect from social media platforms such at Facebook and or Instagram. As far as any luck getting them removed from these pirate click farms I had no luck despite hours of filling out forms and or emails with Meta. Everything is handled with AI and bots, and it's falls into an abyss. I will never share my work online anywhere without a watermark prominently in the middle over the subject, it's a classic deterrent and it works for now.

If you are an artist or digital content creator today, and or photographer you should stand up and take note. It's real and yes these pirates are paid by Meta for using our work on their pages, I don't believe it's ever going to change. The incentives are huge gains for them, living online in under no law or oversight. Free game, and they do whatever the Hell they want. And yes it's outside the realm of the DMCA Fair Use doctrine, they are getting paid. Monetization is becoming a whole new level of fraud online.

However, I only use others' images with permission. Been that way long before the DMCA Takedown legislation. I never have to worry about being sued.
It is like obeying stop signs at 3 AM. Nobody cares, but it's the law.
