N Scale Brass Disaster

Postby Chris Webster » Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:48 pm

I wonder what the story is behind this lot of destroyed brass DDA40X locos:
Ebay#266589158549 - LOT of N Scale Brass Overland Models Union Pacific EMD DDA40X with HEAVY DAMAGE

(They're N-scale, so nothing of value was harmed. )

The builder destroyed them rather than sell them at a cheeper price. I have an Overland diesel that was rescued from a scrap metal bin.

Doubt it was the builder as they are located in Korea, and the seller was from Illinois, as I recall. Maybe the Importer. Major pile of junk in my opinion.

Importer scrapped a lot of unsold inventory including O scale diesel engines, shells as a well known Brass dealer had numerous GE trucks and chassis parts at Chicago shows. As an aside it appears based on Dec news from MMW coalporter hoppers should be arriving this spring, at least 80 are listed as available at new pricing for current interested buyers.

I my have seemed blunt in my first response, I recognise that businesses have to do there best to remain profitable how they do that is not for me to judge.

If you're and "N" scaler you can expect to see the good pieces offered on eBay over the next few months. Taking a cursory look I don't think you could even build one complete loco from the parts listed. But, if you were a club or knew other guys with that loco it might not be a bad buy for spare parts.

Go into "N" scale loco salvage. :D
