2R Stout Auction - 10/26/2023

Postby DaveJfr0 » Mon Oct 23, 2023 9:27 pm

Received an email for this and thought theres a lot of door stop type stuff in this auction that most of the 2R forumites here might be interested in.

I wonder who helped them identify the makers for most of this stuff. They call some of it Lionel and that seems off to me, but what do I know. There's also a mystery boxcab.

Watching 3 items out of curiosity, but nothing in this one for me.

Good luck!

Oh, that was fun! Four or five Lobaugh locomotives, and one really intriguing batch of parts (lot 19). I should bid on that . . .

Wow, that auction has something for everybody......I'm just glad I'm no longer a buyer.....some very tempting models. I'm sure there are many eBay and swap meet dealers just licking their chops. I wonder whose collection this is or is a conglomeration of collections?

Just received my "Sorry, you didn't win this time" email from Stout - the stuff I bid on but didn't win ended up selling for a total of $4,850 (which is why I didn't win them. :D )

The "Sort By - Price: High to Low" pull down button on the catalog page is an easy way to see the most expensive lots. I don't follow the 3-rail market, so I was surprised to see that the "Ten K-Line American Freedom Train Passenger Cars OB" sold from $450 more than the West Side Models C&O 2-10-4.

I went since I live 45 minutes away, first time I have gone in person. There was only one other in person bidder lol. I was interested in the Alexander/Baldwin GG1’s and that box of junk with the Saginaw E6 in it. Was also tempted buy 8-10 of those locos, the Lobaugh’s Scalecrafts, Mi loco etc. I did wnd up with a small lot of four minI scale pullmans and one of the tank car lots and the wood reefer lot. Maybe I will be a little more aggressive next time. It was fun a d certainly better than thinking about work lol.

I am curious who pounced on that lot 60. Greg said it was one documented as coming from a specific builder back in the day. He wasn’t sure who though. Wasn’t Lenior was it?

Yes #60 was a Bill Lenoir built engine
Fun auction ...was able to score a few new bricks
Lobaugh FEF was the highlight
String of Mini Scale passenger cars in factory paint

Good to see folks out there bidding on some of the older items .

What was the item number on the Lobaugh FEF?

I looked at the Lenoir - seems an ok price, but I think I would rather have the Hines version. I liked Bill - he was a gracious host and a good builder, but I have a different building philosophy.

The lot I was looking at went for over $200, which was a fair price for just the Mikado mechanism. I would love to know who put that one together. There was an SP tender of obvious imported provenance in that lot, but I have no idea which importer or what locomotive it came with. The prototype was originally behind coal burning Decks running in eastern New Mexico.

I think Carey was referring to this:
Lot 58, O Scale Brass 2 Rail Union Pacific 4-8-4 Steam Locomotive & Tender #840

I don't doubt you, but I'm curious how you can tell it was built by Lenoir?

Chris, I think there was a small paper back book of photos of Bill Lenoir's locos.

Me thinks that was a lot of money for a loco that needs a lot of work. Plating wearing off most wheels, blind drivers, etc. Is that a stock Lobaugh gearbox? I think it was a real runner in it's day, but that day might be behind it.

My impression is that ordinary examples of the Lobaugh FEF are in the $500 range. With the exception of the blind drivers, this one looks like an exceptionally well done example. Carey got a bargain.

I would have guessed closer to double that.

I should have kept my comments to myself as they reflect my lack of knowledge with early kit locos. I also should have read Carey's post more thoroughly as I didn't know he bought it. In his hands, I'm sure it will become a great model again. :D
