Yeah, and how about the $1500 painted Wasatch cars, not even done by Dan Pantera, so no interiors, lighting or extra trim detail. It seems rare or hard to find "mint" models are bringing big bucks these days.

Iv'e been watching those Cental/Saginaw H10's on the bay at six to nine hundred, and they sit there, and sit, and they don't sell.

Tell us Bob (or anybody who follows the stuff) what a REASONABLE tariff is for a Central H10. I've seen them built into a MORE than decent model. Thinking about one done by one Robert Ring who used to post here on occasion.

As for Saginaw, seems to me Mr. Turner discussed them with a bit of disdain, but I've never had any close encounters of the 3rd kind, wouldn't know one if I tripped over it, there where it was doing duty propping the door open.

Key Imports had some great stuff (H8SC, H9, H10 going for around $1650) that could be had if you kept your eyes open. I've seen some abominations: a beautiful H8SC with a wad of wires for the lighting, stuffed through a hole in the side of the boiler. Egad! A neatly done butcher job!

Butch, Just for academic purposes, do you recall what the asking price was for the latest batch of Wasatch cars from Roger was?

If you mean when he was selling them new back in 1993 I really don't. I think they averaged around $500 each, with the domes bringing more, but that was way out of my budget at that time.

I think I had $1500 to $1600 in a 10 car set of nicely built & painted Kemtron cars at that time and I was on cloud nine. Seller said they were built for and on display at one of the UP depots for several years before I got them. Like most Kemtron cars purchased in the 90's, they were ridden hard and put up wet, but still looked nice for what they were.

The typical Saginaw/CLW H10 goes for $350-450 at the moment. At those prices they are not "snapped up," they lounge around for the full seven days or however long . . .

I actually prefer the Saginaw models, and have a complete collection. Castings were a bit rougher, but main frames were better, tenders were cast with full size trucks, and drivers were cast iron.

My UP cars are K-Line. They are appropriate for a doorstop set of PAs. Some do run on Kemtron or Wasatch trucks. The Kemtron cars were way more accurate, but unless built by a pro, they really did look a bit "beat up." I suppose I should get a Kemtron dome car some day to ride with the K-Lines. K-Line never made a really good dome car.

I do not have either of the above. I will say the best value (opinion) for the dollar I have seen are the Golden Gate Depot aluminum cars from back around 2010, and after market Lionel (Fine Arts Models) of the New York Central 20th Century that could be had (2nd Hand) circa $500-$600 a pop. There was a PRR series of Lionel/FA cars, but the interiors got flipped (presuming that bothers some). GGD is doing some roads now, not sure of the tariff. Passenger trains are tough on the exchequer, considering the need engines and at least 5 or 6 cars to have a half way decent train. (opinion)
