I definitely don't model at this price point, but I have to say they are beautiful models. The prototype is distinctive and I particularly like the variety of markings that are available. I wonder if they have purposely set the initial price high to maximized revenue from those few high-rollers that have to have one (or more) and for whom price does not seem to be much of an object, with the intent of bringing the price down later to get the sales volume they need to make the venture profitable.

Well said. While my preference is early tank cars, I prefer the 10,000 gal size. And I shall stick with Lobaugh. But this is a very nice addition to our high end hobby.
Contrast this with MMW, which is apparently aimed at the same small market.

I love these models, that's why I ordered 1 of each road. this the state
of the hobby and where it is headed. I do not care if its plastic or brass.
I use a lot of RTV rubber and resin products, 1 gal of rubber to make molds is 225.
Resin is the same. Point being Every think as gone up.

Very much surprised to see a brass product coming out at this point in time. I wish them well! Rich

I agree on the 10K size, but they were done pretty well by PSC and Hobbyhill if you can find them. W.A. Drake did some of the smaller capacities.
MMW is oriented to more modern equipment. (bethgon for 0ne)

Yes on all points. Shade late for my specific era but I'd make exceptions for beautiful models. But, even current secondary market upper end brass tank cars are above my budget limits.

It does seem to target a specific niche within 2 rail O scale and far off from the bell curve of the majority of modelers. And if that business model works and they are successful, good for them! Wonder how long these have been in the pipeline; what's the lead time in production, etc. Given the MMW debacle on delivery...
with the intent of bringing the price down later to get the sales volume they need to make the venture profitable.
Now that might prove entertaining!

Understand the business sense of lowering the price if the first offering does well, but to start higher than any new brass freight cars of recent memory might prove to be an issue for a second offering. Even the Protocraft cars are only $300-400 and that's a ton for a boxcar. IIRC, only KOH's freight cars have been priced higher than this and they were very unusual cars....tank cars not so much.
But, I wish them well and hope I'm wrong.

Protocraft boxcars appear sold out, but the 1922 wood reefer built by AC&F for ART appears available for a mere $279.00
https://protocraft.com/category.cfm?Ite ... egoryid=38While I can wish them success at this endeavor and decision, I suspect most modelers will be sitting on the sidelines also in a wait & see mode.

Absolutely. And this will most likely kill any future O scale sales by Tangent. If their builder is typical, you have a minimum number to build before they'll consider the project. But, the per unit cost goes down significantly once your cross that minimum build threshold.

Thanks but no tanks. I will stick with my ScaleCraft and similar ones. At least they are affordable!

All 3 numbers of the Celanse 2-rail cars are all sold out... as are 1 number of each of the COSX, Protex and MPCX 2-rail cars. That strikes me as a decent sales rate considering it hasn't even been 2 months since the cars were announced.
On the other hand, all versions of the P:48 car remain available.

It would be more meaningful if we knew the numbers that were available from the beginning. I suspect that they were rather low. the one kit I produced sold out in under a month. But I only made 20 + 5 available.

Isn't that interesting........maybe they swap out trucks and sell them eventually?
