What’s on your Workbench?

Would there be enough interest in a modelling thread here on the 2-rail sub-forum? I’m thinking the showcasing of current projects folks are doing. Collecting, old builds revisited, eBay, soothsaying about the future, all continue to march on their own threads as usual.

This one would be what it says on the tin, builds as they happen, models you just finished, layout projects. It all sounds like it should be happening naturally, but we (the builders I know are here) don’t seem to go there and not worry about compliments instead of discussions of techniques or even just to show what is going on without expectations. Perhaps we don’t because no-one asked the question?

So, a good idea or not? Anyone want to play? I’d be in.

I am up for it. I guess I feel guilty about stacking free photos in Shutterfly, so I slipped my E44 handrail project in a Strummer thread "over there." I don't suppose soldering giant PA castings would be of interest? That happens this evening, maybe.

The artist is one of our O Scale local group. I get to do prep work like stripping away everything, priming and sealing, then re-siting the flats, shallow-relief stuff, and the foreground structures once he’s done the real art. Once we got in each other’s heads its been a lot of fun really. I’ve never had someone else to work on my railroad (or even to work with me on it) before.

This is the farthest I’ve gotten on one since I was a teenager, really. Lots of designs, lots of proof-of-concept, but haven’t done this as a hobby since the late ‘70s. Of course I haven’t lived in one place very long until now; by far this is the longest in one house in my life.

We’re going for a Berkshires or a Mohawk Valley kind of vibe.

Chris, that version of the X31 was a car specifically modified by PRR and extensively used to haul Jeep bodies stacked on their tails during WWII. There is argument whether they had their roofs raised with that requirement in mind. Its a very cool prototype with the extended roof.

Bob Im in for PA casting, soldering etc, in fact every thing has been great, so far. Its embarrassing I cant get a picture or two up Ive tried all advise so far without success.

Chassis is from a General Models / All Nation model. On the bench for chassis restoration. Coasting gearbox was gummed up and the motor bronze bearings were dry enough to lock the motor. Will return to service this weekend at the Southwest O-Scale show in OKC. Video to follow.

Pretty mundane and simple task, but needed to be done. New number board inserts came in this week with the correct road number (112C) and canopy glue arrives Sunday or Monday. Glue they used in China was yellowish (doesn't show well in photo) and sorta springy, so I wonder if they have "Goo" or ripoff they use?

I needed (wanted) a few things. One was an old-timey single lane bridge to cross two tracks as a scenic break. The other was some tank car projects I wanted to do. So since Glenn Guerra was doing some etchings for CLW as well as his scratch built tenders, we added some items to the sheets. So I now have my bridge and tank car frames.
