So I'm working on this Thomas 0-4-0. Part of Woody's shxt. Pulled the cab, the paint is just flaking off. No primer.
Boiler, not an in-dented part it seems. Big lead weight inside. Rough paint (again, flaking), chipped off paint at rough sots....solder. Flicked the solder off, paint underneath.
Anyway, filed the cab down, all the uneven casting corners and edges, filed out the windows, found he mounted things (and plugged holes) with wooden matchsticks and Ambroid cement.
The Varney roof vent castings....never had flash filed off.
The Alexander K-4 isn't. Boiler is, maybe part of the frame, but looks like US Hobbies drivers and gearbox. Plates across the bottom of the journals, just odd, and tender drive, but no tender.
Got to thinking last night about things that came up with Woody over the years.
I remember he announced one of his engines came with a triple-lead worm, was too slow, so he stuck a double-lead worm in the box on the same worm gear. I still wonder how that worked out for him long-term, and who ended up with that engine.
I'll have to load some photos up and post them.
The double-motored Lobaugh Challenger is really neat.
*sigh*
