Seen lots worse stuff on eBay posted here than that one!

Looks to be a decent buy at this point.

I think Butch was sort of giving it praise. At that price it is a downright bargain, even considering the tender sides need to be redone. I would bid, but I already have four.

Yes, praise was my intent. Maybe I missed them, but this is the 1st Lobaugh Challenger I've seen in a long, long time on EB.

I know - I was commenting more on the tendency here to fish out the worse thing possible to ridicule while in fact there are a lot of decent or better models on eBay.

Been a while since I've seen one, but then I also don't look that closely at large steam; I can't run it, it doesn't fit, and it's money I can spend elsewhere.

Last bid was yesterday and it's at $367. The moon obviously has moved.

It is a $700 model, minimum.

If so, I am happy to have done so. I rather doubt it was my fault, because there are maybe 20 or so very savvy Lobaugh collectors lurking continuously on eBay.

If it doesn't get bumped to reasonable value, some merchant will snag it, not add a cent worth of value, and re- post it for $1200. I don't mind merchants, but when no value is added they are just parasites. Opinion.

The question here is: How long do you have to hold on to an item to escape the term parasite? Is it like short and long term capital gains? Entrepreneur is bit kinder description, and as sure as the sun will shine tomorrow there is risk. The only time the term parasite really applies, is if some PARASITE outbids ME!

Two weeks? I see it happen same day. If you don't want me to think of you as a parasite, either open a shop, like Mr. Poplar, or wait a couple months.

What is wrong with the sides on the tender?
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

Dead soft, and warped. Really rare to see a straight set of the etched sides. Finger pressure will distort them, but usually they were just mis-handled during assembly.

Al Ellis thought that brass had to be fully annealed to bend the curves, and so these sides and the Greenbrier cab were dead-soft. Don't use them.

It's up to $537 with 43 hours left to go...
