He supposedly built this fine piece of sh, er craftsmanship. Unless he’s real famous and this is a long lost piece I think $ 995 is a bit dear! What think thee?

It does look scratch. The Lobaugh version is nicer, although in the neighborhood of $5-600. The seller is a savvy guy; shows up at OSW. I have purchased a Challenger from him - belongded to a good friend who left us way too early.

For that Challenger, see the first entry in Union Pacific Vol 2. I promise to post a photo of the Lobaugh Climax.

It could say Sofue and I'm NOT buying, if it looks like that.

Yeah, its a Sofue alright, built when he was 3 years old. :D Boy, that is bad ugly. Once again, almost more folk art than model.

Almost certainly; what holds the cylinders in place other that the steam connecting pipe???

Please do!

Bought a few things from him as well and the buyers that follow him seem to be willing to pay top dollar for detail parts.

Butch, That one is a "say phooey".

As for the seller, that ads NO mystique to the item. Junk is junk, no matter who is peddling it.

Actually, it's a little disappointing and makes me question buying from him in the future.

This is the wrong place to post this, but what the heck - Lobaugh, all the gears work, no motor yet and still have to add the valve gear - but worth probably $600as it sits.

Almost forgot how to do that . . .

Quite a locomotive for the era. Did you build that Bob? Beautiful.

Yes. Wasn't a complete kit. I think I got Vince to cast gears and sideframes from original molds. No, I remember - I found some Boston gears that were good enough. Then Vince cast some gears in Nickel silver. Making either mesh properly was a PITA. Stevenson now produces the kit.
