Question on identifying cars

So, I have several (many?) pieces with wood centre sills, cross bearers, but cardstock bottom plate nailed into centre sill forming an overhang.
I was just going through my head-end cars, one for sure Lobaugh, two with Lobaugh trucks and that wood sill/cardstock flanged overlay.

Are all the wood understructure with cardstock overlay one manufacturer or a scratchbuilder's effort?

I don't know any manufacturer that used a cardstock overlay on a center sill. The only builder I know that covered their centersills was Lobaugh, but they used a brass strip:





As far as I know, they only did this on express reefers and passenger cars.

Maybe it's brass. Two head end car, Lobaugh trucks...but I have several freight cars with cardstock where the Lobaugh brass is. I suppose I'll have to scratch the edge and see.

I guess I'll have to take photos and upload them. Because, I have another I thought was Lobaugh....twin sill plates, twin parallel cross bearers, cross bearers curved and flanged (like I said, photos) also with Lobaugh trucks.

I don't know much about this stuff, nor do I have a great deal of interest in it, but it's a product of the decade of the 40's, figure the effect of WWII on available materials.

I know I've built a few cars made of parts from 5-6 different sources; it was what I had in the shop and it worked for what I wanted to build.

In the late 1940s or early 1950s I bought some cheap O scale cars that were possibly Comet on which I made a few changes and attached, get ready
for some sacrilege, Lionel trucks and couplers because they were cars Lionel didn't make and I liked them.
To me this is not much different than using Lionel cars that have had the Lionel trucks and couplers changed to scale two rail ones.
