I think that seller could get $75+ for the items in that lot if they broke it up into 7 to 10 different listings, added better photos, and moved the non O-scale specific stuff (constant lighting kits, lights) to the HO categories.

The air horns alone would be worth the opening to me if I wanted them. Last year I would have jumped on this auction.

Yeah, that's a pretty silly price, but Dave was a major UP collector who always overvalued his collection (IMHO) even back to the 90's. But, its his model so............. Personally, I've never seen one bring more than $6K and not too many years ago they could be had in the $4-5K range. It's all supply and demand.

I don't think I'd call it silly after seeing examples like this OMI Union Pacific C-855A C-855B C-855A 3 unit set that was recently bid up to $6,100: Ebay #143500989273, O scale brass Union Pacific C-855A B A 3 unit set Custom Painted OMI-0203, 204
The UP #80 set strikes me as being worth more than C855A set.... but I'm not going to be buying either, so what do I know?

I keep hearing that one single estate sale can flood the O scale brass market with supply, but I have yet to see that phenomenon drive down the prices of pieces I'd like to buy.

And yet, we keep hearing how the hobby is dying....

Lost track of how many decades that song has been sung. Then again, I'm not running out and buying $10k brass items either, so for those folks, maybe they are hearing a different song. A box of sticks and bag of detail parts provides plenty of entertainment for me.

Oh, but it IS! Those buyers are just getting shiny bling to have with them in their coffins.

You need to read a bit closer. That's Canadian.

About $1,200 US, right?

Snicker.

Well, Snicker, my copy of the auction ad says US10,000, so l'm guessing that means American money, not Canadian. I could be wrong, but....................

all I saw was da linque....and some bloke in C, eh? N, eh?, D, eh?, was selling it.
You'd think them folks would have an issue with converting currency from Crappy Tyre Dollars to Greenbacks, but mayhaps naught.
