Universal motor brush /spring retainers: any out there?

Hello O scale world ....

In the door stop world ..can motors are the sign this poor engine has been raped !!!

The Universal motor: true does have more parts ..and more things can go wrong ... but if it's easy who really wants to do it ?

Does anyone in the greater O scale world know if the fiber pieces that slip through the brush retainer and attach to a spring are available ?..

I'm sure in the day a large bag of them could be bought from the manufacturer ...

In time the tiny hole that holds the spring.....can rip /tear ...

Just checking if there is a source for this little buggers ....hate to scrap out other motors just to grab the pieces .

Or a source for the fiber material to cut new ones ?

Carey, would you be able to make the retainers out of styrene? Maybe the holes would last longer?

I would make them out of glass impregnated stuff. How thick are they? Other dimensions, just in case I get bored?

Perhaps out of blank circuit board material?

Hello all..thank you for your input ... I've been out painting a trestle all day ...( not 1/4" ....about 225' long and 22' high so it takes awhile) ..I'll get some measurements on the little buggers ...and report back ...
there are several variations among the various manufactures of the universal "type" motor ..but they all have the basic same part
