Oh man, we have lost a great one.........

I wrote him April 29 as I had not seen any posts from him looking for Shays. He wrote me back May 1st and said he was in the hospital with a rare disease. I could share his email but am reluctant to as it's private. He had expected to go home after a few days but I never got an answer to from my reply to his.

I got to know Lee about 10 years ago by email. I bought several models from him and sold him a couple. I have fond memories of lengthy mail exchanges on multiple subjects. My favorite memory is asking him to slip a couple of 1.7 and 2.0 mm screws in an envelope as I lost a few while re-assembling a model after re-powering it. He sent me 2 packs of 100 NWSL screws, and would not accept a dime even though I tried.

Over the years I have acquired one of every model of his Critters. Here's my first one with Tsunami sound.

When I sent him a copy he wanted to know if the engineer was taken out of service for his lack of attention to where he was!

He was also my go-to guy for hard to find parts...............

I will miss him a lot and my heart goes out to his family

Peter, sorry for the loss of your friend and our hobby is also a little poorer.

I never knew him, but I knew his partner Darryl Townsend. Very nice guy. He was the other half of Lee-Town Models.

I did not know that about the "Town" in Lee Town, Bob.

I spent an afternoon with him at the very last Eastern O Scalers show at Wind Gap (our tables were side by side). He was quite the talker, but I don't recall what we talked about! What did he do to his Shays? I know he was always looking for them.

He took the PSC and Sunset Shays and replaced their kinda herky and noisy gear and belt drives with a smooth and quiet chain drive. I never got one so I can't comment but people who have them seem to like them.
