We just got word from Roger Lewis that Key’s factory in Korea just burned to the ground and everything is s total loss. All the research material, castings, tooling, etc is gone. Dave is going to fly over after O Scale West to see what if anything can be saved. To say the least this is a disaster.

That is enough to churn the stomach. Hope noone was hurt, and hope that Dave and Roger survive this financially.

Awful news. Agree with hope they all survive this financially.

I hope this doesn't take KEY out as an importer!!! And it leave very few quality importers and non as diverse as KEYs offerings. I think Dave may be too old to start over again and just say phooey and enjoy the rest of his life.

I agree with all of what you say, would be very hard to come back from. Last year he and I talked and he said
he was over a half million into the Cal Z project but would finish it no matter what. Not sure now.

Roger Lewis chimed in on the KEY thread, over at OGR a few minutes ago and asked everyone to just be patient and not speculate. Dave will go over after after OSW to evaluate the situation. Sounds reasonable and it was good to see a post from Roger.

Roger posted this update a few days ago on the OGR site.

Update on the fire. The loss was restricted to all the ten of thousands of drawings and photos, the CZ pilot models, all the castings for the CZ project, the DCC and DC Controllers, the test trackage, computers, etc. FM was building a project for The Europe market and I don’t know what stage that project was in. Key has copies of all drawings and photos of every project they have ever built. I also have the all same documents so all the information required to build the California Zephyr train is easy to produce. The project will be delayed a little, if you have a reservation we ask that you bear with us while FM recovers from the fire.
