Two Lobaugh SP slope back tenders and the odd SP tender Max brought in (some say meant to go behind the lost wax mike). Not in the best of shape and two (okay photos are of the same tender?) have the wrong trucks but the models could be fixed up easily enough. Price may be a little high also.....time will tell. Interesting too, looks like the same tender listed twice. Notice the mount for outside third rail.

The more I look at the larger tender it may just be a standard MG SP 12,000. I don't think the tender, purported to be for the lost wax mike, had the insulating (phenolic) pads used to insulate the trucks from the tender.

Sure looks like the ugly version. Arnold Menke says these were built for the early 2-10-2s. One exists behind 1744, wherever that went. The standard MG 120 C has twin supports for the six wheel trucks, and a too-high oil bunker.

Those trucks have to be worth something as antiques?

I agree - starting bids appear high. But his shipping is reasonable.

It's not uncommon to see stuff listed under the wrong scale. Seems to me I see more HO listed under O, but then, I don't look at much HO. Sometimes searches will give wonky results. Like the Sargent used to say on Hill Street Blues "Be Careful Out There!"

Could just ask the seller for a measurement........................of this tenders!

I don’t know for sure, but in the last photo you can see his fingers on the tender. Looks HO from that photo.

The third one does have a photo showing a measurement of 6". That would be close for a PRR class A or B slope back tender in O scale.

The shell of an SP 40SR-1 (slope back tender) is 21'-6 1/2" long . The frame should be about 24'-5". From pulling face to chaffing iron is 26' 4 3/4". The photo shows a slightly oversized O Scale tender. The Vandy could be HO but I doubt it. It has the characteristics of the MG O Scale SP 12k.

I agree. But who will bid, at those prices? The "lost wax Mike" guys? The slope backs might bring $75, from someone who has a Vanderbilt version and wants a slope back.

On reflection, it was not Max, but USH that imported the six axle 120 C tender. Max is rumored to have brought this ugly four axle version in for the 1950s Lobaugh Mike.

Thinking way back.....did the mike tender even come with trucks?

I don't think so. I have only seen one in the original packaging, and no trucks. Prototype rides on what I would call Andrews Tender, but Vulcan would be a better name. Al Ellis was going to supply lost wax two axle commonwealth, appropriate for the 120 C early tenders.

Which reminds me - isn't the ugly tender a variant of the 100 C? I will check tomorrow - it will be in Church's ten-coupled book.

I may have scratchbuilt every Vanderbilt and semi-Vanderbilt tender the SP ever had except this one and the coal tender. You should see how many haystack tenders live here.
