In case someone didn't know about it and cares, there is another Seacrest Auction listed on Stouts website. Looks like some very interesting items, including a very rare OMI 350 ton coal tower that looks very nice.

Lot 195...oh, dear. Cab is not only bent, but shoved way forward, and buckled the firebox down....and underneath shot looks like frame is smacked over in the rear (divers not aligned).
Lot 37...Kingston Junction Railway loco?
There has to be over 35 alleged Joe Fischer built cars. The guy must have been trying to corner the market.

POOR loco and item description....."brass steam locomotive, Southern Pacific (or whatever) with NO manufacturer listed.
One would think, and auction house looking for big bucks would have someone sort this out in advance?

I'm not real good at identifying stuff yet, but are there a couple of (at least partial) Lobaugh or Scalecraft 4-8-2's in there? I didn't look through the hole list. I keep thinking I should go in person to one of their auctions in Indiana since its practically next door. Maybe some day...

Yes. I have them marked. Some engines are missing parts...even the Thomas 2-8-0 is missing one upper tender side.
I imagine the Thomas will go crazy and reach 300, just because nobody knows.

The list is, as usual, mind-numbingly long. I would love a short cut to the Lobaugh Mountains.

I really liked Jim. He was sharp as a tack, and our politics matched. I feel a bit sorry for him, because he could never quite fill that hole that some of us have for model trains. At the end, I don't think he had more than a few pieces on display where he lived.

I might have come close to that. For the last five years or so, I have been able to be happy with the size and quality of my collection without adding anything significant, and probably for the last decade my average is less than one piece a year. But from about 1985 to maybe 2005 it was like a frenzy - if it said Lobaugh I had to have it, along with doorstop Diesels and old freight cars.

I am also lucky in that almost all of my collection is on display. The Greek puts up with maybe ten steamers in the living room, and ten shelves in the computer room. The rest is on display shelves in the garage, train room, and airport. I can darn near look at every O Scale model I own every day. Still, I can see the trap - always gotta have more . . .

Pretty typical I suspect. Real easy to end up with a LOT of stuff, unless maybe you are a fan of some smaller operation like Aberdeen and Rockfish! A lot of worse stuff out there.....booze, drugs, gambling.

But, a lot of items had issues too and that's why they could be bought so cheaply. I remember Don Lake bought a ton of stuff for Jim and I was able to see the hoard at any KCMO show or the March Meets. It was remarkable the amount of stuff Don bought.

Butch, Sounds like the old Clint Eastwood flick "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" I'd want to be there at the auction to SEE the condition, before I bid on ANY of that stuff. Way too hard to see what shape stuff is in from the auction pics, and even if it was decent, how would it be after shipping? I didn't look at the whole auction list, but I saw Lionel, MTH, P&D Hobby Shop, Joe Fischer, and various brass, so it appears he was buying darn near anything.

Maroon kindly sent photos of the Mountains. Three Lobaugh, two Scale Craft, and one scratch based on Scale Craft. Six!

At first, my reaction was " no wonder these things are rare!" On reflection, I counted mine - six! Not counting the Max Gray and extra parts.
