Yes it was a nice piece when brought in. It is a special type of model that is way over priced for opening bid
of 1580.00. Wishful thinking on the sellers part. These were selling for 750.00 about 3-4 years ago, and were not selling at that price either.

Now factor in to what is going on now in the high end brass market. We have had 3 very large collections being
disposed of in the last 3 years. This has just killed the key models diesels PA and E that were getting 1500-2400
and are now going for 600 to 1200. it will take a very long time to come back up.

But who knows seller just might find a whale to bite.

I think large structures are in a class by themselves and are hard to put a handle on pricewise. I remember when John dumped these cement plants several years ago and the project in general had to be a total disappointment to him. But, like the OMI 350T coal tower and some of the OMI bridges (and other mfgs. models), people are realizing these type structures will never be built again in brass. And not everyone has the ability to build what they want or need, so buying is their only alternative. I sold a damaged (very repairable) OMI coal tower I owned for years (no original box) to a fellow who wanted it more then me. Paid me almost $2K about a year ago. So, I think structure prices just ebb and flow to their own beat.

Agreed. I think john was selling these on Ebat a few years back for $750.

If I'm reading it right, it has been bid up to $1580 by ten bidders, not opening at that price. Or am I missing something here?

10 bids; 2 bidders.

Well your are not missing any thing. I stand corrected . opening bid was 777.00 not 1580.
That's what I get for posting at 3 am PST when I should be in bed.

Bill

No worries. Amasing amount of money, though...

To clarify: starting bid was $777.00 with 2 bidders making 10 bids, standing as I type this at $1580 with the high bidder bidding against himself (or maybe herself) holding the top two bid positions.

I think they originally retailed somewhere roundabout $2250, but don't take that as gospel!

Ended up going for $1731 with 3 bidders bidding 13 times. Still a bargain in regard to the original price, but could have been had for around $750 a while back which is a steal! (opinion)

If you can money to burn and a place & real estate to put this on -- guy selling it stored it in his garage.......

I would be more interested in knowing where it ends up.

When compared to the 2K+ original list price

Unfortunately, Evilbay, in their infinite wisdom hides that.

I am not sure that's unfortunate that they do that.

I was actually more wondering if it was even going to stay in this country.....

As to the first, like most things, arguments could be made for showing and for not. Doesn't really bother me one way or the other!

As for the destination, I thought this one might have been restricted to the US because of it's size, but the seller ships to about everywhere but the Moon! Be interesting to know how many of them were made! I think Butch is correct in that there will not be much of similar ilk made in the future!

Initial destination might be US, but I wonder.....and it only cost more to ship further.....

Be interesting to know how many of them were made!

Such a listing of numbers for much of the past 30-50 years would be useful to have available

I think Butch is correct in that there will not be much of similar ilk made in the future!

Much? I'd be very surprised if any ever again. Well, not at prices many can begin to conceive of paying.
