This is claimed to be the most it has been together since going into the ditch and being disassembled in 1959.

New axles and crankpins (old ones too pitted), new rear truck (missing), running boards (missing), new front half of firebox, lower half of front tube sheets, all new brasses and machining, new wood cab.

Close. Might even fire it late this year. Did not see a tender anywhere.

Looks sorta like a 'shelf' coupler in that one shot. Better call that dude over on OGR!

Not sure the exact nomenclature of that coupler...but I've seen lots over the years. The slot holds a link if you need to couple up to link and pin log cars.

That is in Garibaldi, Oregon, next significant town north of Tillamook. They run on the old SP line there. Right now running the McCloud #25 Mike. Rode behind it to Rockaway Beach and back.

Interesting tender wheels. Both axles on lead truck have small wheels and very thick tires, with diameter obviously inches bigger than those on rear truck.

Lead wheelset on rear truck has large wheel and very thin tires. #4 is spoked.
Asked the questions, apparently 28" wheels are very hard to come by any more, so McCloud turned the wheel down and shrunk on thick, I don't know, 30" or bigger tires.
#3 hasn't had that done yet, and nobody has a clue as to why #4 is spoked, thoughts being they all were at one point and this is the only one left.

Over to the side is an SP Mike, rough, lead driver decoupled, missing some links.

Full on broadside of #25.

#25's running gear.

You can see the wheel diameter differences and the spoked #4.

Better side view of SP 90 Mikado. While position of running gear does not allow you to see the decoupling of lead driver, and astute viewer will notice the counterweight position of #1 as compared to the other three drivers.

Did a little research on 90. On-site placards did not specify this.

"This engine is owned by the local Lions Club who bought her in 1963 from Rayonier for $1,200. A couple of years ago they lettered her Southern Pacific to pay homage to the SP Tillamook Branch. It was put on display in 1963 and was originally built as Polson Logging Co. #90 and became part of Rayonier Inc. in 1945.

Nice; always liked the 2-4-4-2.

Any idea what the minimum radius is that this engine will accept?

Rufus, it will go around my one 36" loop at the end of a peninsula with no problems..........and no modifications. It takes some tinkering to get the locomotive to run well. I lowered the motor in the frame by using a smaller diameter Maxon and removing some material from the frame. I also re-did the drive shafts using Hobbytown and added a torque arm to the motor and first gearbox. Essentially with the motor lowered, the entire drive line is in a straight line. Makes a huge difference.

Good to know. I have been sorely tempted for too long......but also have zero rational reason to have one. That has not stopped too many before,

28-30" - it would run over the same track as my trolleys and smaller steam, and actually a Weaver RS3, too

Rufus. I will see how much tighter it can go when I get home later this month. 28 might be pushing it but I'll let you know.
