The driver flanges seem to be coarser than today's 2-rail flanges.
Since all drivers have flanges, I assume the original builder contemplated curves larger than O-72.
So, with larger radius curves it's a perfectly fine 3-rail loco.

Standard run-of-the-mill General Models Mountain. They came with field wound motors, so AC 3-rail is no stretch.
There are some here who think the 150 starting bid (reserve) is no big deal.
It is, but if I say that those same folks will tell me to get current.

It's okay, if the ebayers want to artificially drive the cost of these up with "starting bids" and "reserves". Mine was...ten bucks? Maybe? Since this one is painted (unlettered) I'd give him 25 delivered, but since he wants 22 for postage, he probably won't go for it.

Why not admit you are getting bargains? I too have received locomotives free in the mail, but that does not mean they were worthless.

$150 is reasonable for the model shown, even without insulated drivers. I would not sell my stock AN Mountain for twice that. I admit to buying one from Chicagoland for $35, but knew at the time that Rich was giving me a real deal.

I would, except it keeps happening and has for 40-50 years. I thought all the Varney drivers were insulated one side...I suppose you could have ordered non, but those have to be the easiest in the world to fix.

A very nicely done Adams shell with a KTM mechanism showed up on ebay:

Except....near as I knew and can determine on short notice, CB&Q didn't have any E-6's. There are E-5's in existence, and the sides are way different than that model.


Underframe different, headlights, the sides....and the pins...and it sure looks like the cab door forward is stargazing.
But, hey, if someone wants to spend $600 plus shipping, go right ahead.

An E5 is what the model is representing. Seller is incorrect. The E6's have a flat area at the bottom of the upper headlight that Vees into the nose sheet metal, the E5's did not, more like the E7-E9. The sides are correct (more or less), but are missing the 3 rectangular vents along the top. Actually doesn't look all that bad except the split down the middle of the cab.If they had done a nicer job with the cab,like make it one piece with a bit more detail, they would have had something. (opinion)

Okay, let's talk about the sides.
Every photo I have ever seen of Q passenger E's have corrugated lower half or so.
Model has none.
Look at the "BURLINGTON" lettering on the E-5 shown.Almost like a letterboard (but it isn't) between the screens above and windows below.
Now look at the model.
The top of the windows are even with the bottom of the screens, with the lettering spaced around one set of screens..."BUR" "LINGTON".
The windows for sure appear to be way too tall....reminiscent of Troop Train cars (joke).

NO argument with any of that, not perfect by any stretch, but at least recognizable. If you want the best, break out the wallet and go for the Key Imports job, and I recently saw an Overland version that didn't look too bad, but I must have trashed my book mark.

Hello cast brass fans

At $600 Brass has moved to precious metals column . 3rd Adams and Sons E ( something) to hit the market in 3 weeks ....and all 3 are different ..
I'm the proud new owner of the Adams E ---from the Seacrest auction last Saturday ....my favorite of the 3 to surface ..plus a relative bargain.
Look Dave is has the corrugated sides just like your nice photo! ( more or less)

If the current ebay one finds a bidder ..I'd guess the smell of sweet money will bring more door stops out into the market place in hopes to cash in ...before the price of Brass slumps again.

That one is do-able. Corrugations and letterboard space. Rest can be fixed without new sides and nose.

Those really do look like KTM gearboxes. Both are very nice for doorstops.
