I am really impressed with the headlight.

Nobody stole it - it did not meet the reserve.

I really do not understand the concept - why not start the bidding at a price you would accept?

Did anyone else cringe when they saw the painted doors being held open by a knurled aluminum screwdriver?

There are a lot of reasons for that; first is that starting there will probably result in no bids. Your own practice of starting at 99 cents gets bidders involved and invested psychologically and the bidding continues. Seconds it to get that bidding investment and watch if hopefully pass that reserve. See it all the time at live auctions; folks leave bids and there's a reserve by the owner and bidders work all that harder to pass that number... It's not rational, but it does take place.

Whoops! Must be going blind....and I had noticed that caveat from the git go! I personally don't care for reserve auctions. Had I been really interested in this one, I would have bid my max at the very end. I posted this one because there are some UP buffs here, and this one appeared to be pretty nice, even lacking the headlight , which is not that hard a fix.

Jin both of your links it says"unsold". Very small letters under the high bid. Could have been his shipping quote that keep the price down. It shows $96.10 for me.

Look again using the link above. It has a bid of $616.06. Underneath that is the shipping of $96.10, which I agree is high. There is a diagonal bar over the auction image that says ended. Nowhere does it say unsold or reserve not met. When you select the link for "original listing" it denotes "reserve not met" under the bid. Just another way that Evilbait is f*cked up. They always have to put links to a jillion other pieces of crap in all their listings.

Actually, I'm not seeing that at all - no diagonal bar. I am seeing a page with the bid amount and right below it "reserve not met".

$96 for shipping does seem high, but then again big boxes going into a bigger box with packing materials going cross country these days can cost a lot. The size and weight and number of zones crossed can really bump up shipping. W/o knowing the final size and weight, and then destination, it's hard to know - and if that came from the eBay calculator - out the window.... I used to be able to ship an average sized steam engine double boxed cross country for under $50, but that was a couple of years ago and the rates were cheaper then.

Interesting! Same Internet address, but different information depending on the JUNK you use to view it!

My OS is old, and can't handle some types of files, but I didn't think that info on an address would vary. The machines are getting the upper hand!

My laptop shows a different image then my Iphone. Something i never noticed before.
