Well it had to happen, posted pics of MMWs project on the big forum has fueled the "great glad hand debate, left or right" who knew, did a mfg ever offer these either way? what you can not just turn the glad hand around in the flex tube ! some posters pet peeve, just saying!

Beats someone declaring this is the best model ever produced!

Can't be skewering the sacred cow! If one doesn't want to hear "negative" comments (Is it really negative to point out errors?), then probably best NOT to post about it on a public forum. If I were buying one, I would welcome any and all discussion in the hope of getting a more accurate model. Anything much past a GP-9 leaves me cold (although there are a couple modern engines I like the looks of). Half these folks can't discern opinion from criticism, and if someone does criticize it, SO WHAT!

I'm pretty sure the gladhand comment was only made in response to Hot Water's post that only Real Men know what they are talking about because Real Men use Real EMD Drawings (or used to work for EMD) to make Real Models and anybody else should just shut their pie holes and quiver in silence and shame at the thought of their unmanly unEMDness.

MMW seems to attract some very zealous followers, which is good for MMW.

Beyond 1st generation diesels I lose interest pretty quick and really don't like any of the SD line except the SD-40-2 Snoot, but I think the SD-45 is one of the plainest looking locomotives of that time period. I

I have yet to fully grasp why when MMW has yet to ever actually deliver a brass model. If MMW pulls this off, and the product lives up to the hype, then I can see it. Very few models have ever fully lived up to the hype.........

It is the zealousness. Really good word - wish I had thought of it.

Most religions seem to be intolerant of the opinions of non- believers. This one is no different. When Matt stated that criticism wasn't allowed, I started to post - but decided better to ignore it.

Reasonable folks can hold discussions. Zealots generally have their minds made up beforehand.

Theoretically.........you could be called on to have a license not only for the livery but also to the company that designed and built it. Do you really want to pry open the sacks of anacondas labeled copyright and patent law?

No. I just wondered if somebody like Union Pacific would want some do ray me. I would if i owned the railroad. Harley Davidson will come after you with a pack of wolves for using their name without a fee paid. NFL comes after Pee Wee football if they profit from merchandise sales. Kids can wear a favorite teams logo but not sell.

They already went through this. UP started a licensing program and wanted $5.00 from every model in its livery. The skeptics among us would even suggest that the heritage fleet locos were done only to reestablish ownership of the trademarks and so on so they could charge for something like Mopac or Western Pacific. Mth went to court with them and if nothing else the $5.00 per model fee got dumped. UP still licenses their stuff, but doesn't charge. Same with CSX.

Skeptics also might suggest that the legal department thought they smelled a cash cow when ultimately the admin and enforcement was never going to make it worth the hassle.

Actually the extensive time to get this model produced and subsequent "publicity" I believe has helped to get enough cash reservations to move the project to this stage, obviously the attention to prototype detail has helped, the trucks and gearbox castings are exceptional. While not the most popular model to produce the SD 45 and all its variants apparently has enough investors to most likely get delivered by next year, time will tell. JMO
