Jon, am I mistaken or does yours have that same "zinc rot" feature my two Weaver converted troop sleeper express boxes have?
It manifested itself just over the last year on both and in fact split the attached car body on one just below the baggage doors.
Carnage that will require some careful salvage and replacment to fix. Oh well.

And yes, these troop sleeprs show up as MOW cars all the time,

De Bruin, The Public Delivery Track assured me this and all troop carrier cars are made by Atlas O who bought the rights to them from Weaver when they shut down. I should be good to go!

I thought the zinc pest problem was also in the Atlas cars.

Atlas inherited the rights to these cars from Weaver. These cars are now imported by Atlas, so "hopefully" the same thing won't happen, though there is no guarantee with anything brought in from China and the manufacturer was probably Kadar both times. It depends on whether the actual factory gave enough of a dam that day to clean the machines, to not shovel scrap into the melt, and to bother with the metallurgy. Although the cause is well known as is the proper alloy, the Chinese are not exactly concerned with what happens after the job loads in the container.

Atlas' last experience was several years ago with ladders on ex-Intermountain cars, so they haven't been hosed lately, not like Weaver and MTH on several models.

I remember an Atlas Steam Era freight car I bought new came with self destructing ladders. That bites a little, but I save all my leftover Intermountain parts so a ladder is easy. What's not so easy it the color of the old ladder is slightly off from anything I have paint wise. So for now I call it a project on hold until I can resolve that small problem. I remember carrying a piece of the broken ladder to the Enfield,CT meet last summer hoping to land either paint or a ladder with the right color...no luck.
