Understood.

On the other hand, a resin master for a bronze sand casting might be a labor saving proposition - a Williams E-7 shell could be a starting point. As of now, my plan is just a built-up master out of polystyrene. First will be B-unit aluminum sides.

Progress. Note the roof - I will get an iPad photo that shows how it should look. I am very close to the solder step. I shall make pilot and fuel tank covers first. Taking a break . . .

Nestled right down there with a littl coaxing. The little plow effect is prototypical for the early version.

Nice, I think the Atlas car body is good with regard to the roof curvature, definitely like the windshield work you applied here and impressed with how quickly you got the nose casting fit to the roof and sides sorted out.
I would have been working on that for a month.

Bob,

Is this what the B-17 windshield looks like? Overland's version, at least.

That's a good looking model. Did not know about those ridges and the "plow" between cab roof and main roof when we did the casting. I am still really happy with my doorstop, although progress has slowed while I consider an E-7 slab side casting master.

These photos didn't show up the first time. The unpainted model is a production PRR model. It will be modified and will be the trailing unit.

Bob, your cast Erie built is progressing nicely, it's my favorite in progress cast diesel project here (last one was Alan Wehrle's Squaw Creek U-Boat)
looking forward to your next installment. I've likely asked this before but what specific prototype do you have in mind for finished Model? and where did those cast early versions of the factory fabricated A-1-A trucks come from. Pretty cool, also what's your drive-train strategy going to be? another CLW?

Jay getting "vapors" just looking here. The finished A unit is stellar, one of the best looking Erie-built schemes in my opinion, (not a big UP devotee either) specifcally those large winged heralds on the cab sides. Is the finished "A" factory paint? or custom painted?
Also the in-progress A and B, do they get "UP-ized" to match? Did OMI include all the "goodies" to make that happen? He did with all those E unit variants he imported, I still use the extra parts from just one of them to this day.
Would appreciate the "Paul Harvey rest-o-story" version on these for sure.

Pete

My plan is B-17 windows, Milwaukee paint with built-up chrome panel, and those sand cast fabricated trucks.

The combination B-17 and fabricated did not make it to Milwaukee - confined to UP as above and maybe KCS. I can check.

Power at this point is in abeyance - I find that once I have done something well, I tend to proceed to something else. However, if I do power it, it will be with six CLW plastic gearboxes, each truck being set up with a horizontal 8224 motor and a tooth belt drop-down. I am working on six wheel pickup for that design - I have almost perfected a horizontal plunger affair that cleans treads while it conducts. Each truck will operate independently, but I will connect them for six wheel pickup of each polarity.

All that will become obsolete with battery/RC, which I maintain is coming like a freight train!

I have one E-7 with such a perfected system, except it uses Delrin chain (ugh). I will be commissioning Jay for my upgrades - about half my Diesels now have split sprockets.

As some know, I am not an operator. The test run is often the last run! Sometimes, as with my MC-6, a test run can get complicated. That thing took weeks to perfect.

Definitely KCS had them too, so did NYC, freight versions in black with lightening stripes. There may be more roads based on the delivery dates but too lazy to dive stacks or net. I do like the look of these with the early factory fabricated trucks a lot. I hope you take this one to fruition, though with these beasts a set is the right "look" yet conversely Milw also used them singly in commuter service wearing the post '57 Armour Yellow scheme....
(I vote KCS 8^)

Entirely concur. Where do I sign up?

Jay,

Will we be able to follow your PRR to UP transformation project here?

Rich,

Probably not that much. Most of my stuff is posted on Face Book. Far more interaction and feedback.

In my case, when I don't have to be an electronics tech to take advantage.

I realize many eschew joining FB for good and sufficient reasons. There are, however, many groups dedicated to modeling. For example, there's a 2-rail/Proto 48 group that occasionally features work by Gene Deimling. And, Jay is correct, most postings receive feedback.
You can be on Facebook and refrain from posting political opinions (an option never rejected by me...) and remain pretty anonymous.
