Tuesday PM - stripped the ugly black paint, sand blasted (garnet, 60 psi), soldered the cab roof better, and ready to prime and paint. Glad I did that - I was going to give up and let Jim do it. Better that he gets his Bay State thingies going. I am sticking to PAs.

After this thing gets painted again, I am back to the Erie Berk, soldering the half round wire on the top of the tender. Turns out it is not as easy as it looks - difficult to bend this stuff without it getting twisted. Good thing I got 20 feet of it.

Finished the half-round to my (and The Greek's) satisfaction a minute ago. Photo soon on the Berk thread. Turns out you just solder right up to the bend point and it behaves around the curve. Optimally, you have those small Starrett machine clamps to aid - couldn't find mine, so used larger clamps and roach clips.

Meantime, the Suburban is done, except for bell and decals. I did some final test runs, which you can see by going to Youtube and looking for Bob Turner O Scale Steam. Decals on the first two red tanks by Maroon. Believe it or not, I just learned how to post on Youtube, so stand by - I may have a new hobby!

Thank you for posting the link for the YouTube video. That thing runs great.

Reviewed some of the other videos on Bob’# YouTube channel. Some great stuff! I particularly like the running of the articulated steam and the RI pacific. On the Pacific one can really see the benefit of hiding the gearbox. The MR bipolar was pretty neat as well. I am impressed that the sound board remains in it.

Bob, I would definitely look forward to more videos from you.

Thanks. I will try to open them up for comments. Maroon did the first two, and the one with the articulateds is open to comments. I think I tapped "kid friendly" and that inhibits any possibility of commenting.

Well, thanks! Not all my models are operating, but I bet I have at least fifty or so that can be activated with a little penetrating oil and grease. Let me know if you have a favorite from any of my threads, and I will use that as an excuse to limber it up.

I may do the Sharks, but last night the mosquitoes got the best of me.

Aedes, or as Jim found, Aides. Bad news. San Diego had zero mosquitos until about five years ago - just slightly after they were introduced in Orange County. They are called "ankle biters" and can germinate (?) in as little as two days, in a bottle cap full of water. Range- about 100-200 feet, so in my case, a neighbor has standing water. They actually are worse than regular mosquitoes - they carry disease, and their bite causes intense itching.

I would be curious just to see the entire circle of layout. Then a video of the numerous pieces on the shelves. Your transformer set up is similar to mine.

I feel your pain about mosquitoes. Will send a link to a device that an artist friend who works in an open air studio swears by.

I have succeeded in fixing the Youtube stuff. Now comments are welcome. I am not expecting this stuff to be wildly popular; indeed one of the advantages I see in O Scale 2-rail is that it is a very small but passionate community with facets from Doorstop through Proto 48 and beyond.

But I gotta tell ya, it has been viewed far more times than I expected. I will try to clean up my act and give you a full 360, maybe even with commentary. Who knows - maybe I will try for a guitar solo some day! (It will be Bach)

The two projects were shipped today - here is the builders photos:





Two things of note: The CNJ decals are by K4 - I shot Mike Hood a photo, and he responded right away - seems like a great outfit. The invoice said $7.50, and that included shipping. The film is perfect, and releases from the backing in 20 seconds. You can see the film, because I put them on semi gloss paint and did not overcoat - two "no-no's". But in real life you can hardly tell. Jim may redo them (plenty of decals left) or just shoot dullcote on it.

The tender trucks are Kemtron Wabash - arguably the best arch bar tender trucks in any scale! They came in a kit, but I had to make new bolsters. I may be sorry I did not loctite the tiny bolster screws in place - homework assignment for Jim.

That's it, unless a Rock Island Mountain or 1942 GS-3 shows up. Or maybe a ten-wheeler? All Lobaugh that are only rumored to exist at all.

Those are nice....I really like loco 278.
I contacted K4 about a month ago looking for some "E5" loco data decals for Greg, but Mike had none. I asked how many sets would need to be ordered for him to do run, but he wasn't interested and I understand that. But, with all our other decal manufacturers fading, it's nice to have someone like K4.

The locos look great! I look forward to seeing them run here in Dallas soon. Recently I was working on assembling 2 pairs of the Precision Scale trucks and did struggle a bit with drilling the screw holes and tapping them deep enough while not drilling too deep. So I can relate.

Im still holding out hope that you build that Chinese QJ 2-10-2. I think that would be unusual. You have mentioned it over the years several times.
