So other than answering direct questions by the OP, I don't see any focus to this thread. Was the purpose to just talk about battery power with r/c?
That's fine... I just wanted to put the question below about r/c for signal and rails for power to bed... it does not make sense, as my post stated a little more diplomatically.
So, back to battery and r/c... the possibilities are endless as well as the discussion if unbounded by priorities, feature set required, etc.

I am building a layout and don't want to wire it extensively. I have perhaps 40 older locomotives with open frame motors, and I don't want to modify them any more than necessary. I would like to run several at the same time (not mu).
