And I see no token liberals there - I am sure that there are more liberal minded folk in model trains than in, say, aviation, but they seem to be staying quiet to get along. I don't really blame them.

They are there although why you use the word "token" is unclear; you are just seeing them in your cursory inspections.

Strange, perhaps, but they were requested enlargements of the avatars that I have been using while I have been getting cataract surgeries performed and recovering now. They were extracted from the NIN video of a song, "Closer". You might find it challenging.....

That is a great thread to visit. I don't look for those type photos on the internet, but always fun to see where we've been when Rufus posts them. Never disappointing.

Interesting thread on the 2nd Amendment on the Clubhouse Lounge circuit.

I note that it is well over 90% supportive of the pro-gun agenda. I wouldn't dare post my viewpoint there; I can get my feelings just as easily hurt here by people I sort of know and get along with.

As Sarge notes in another thread, train folks are often gun folks. I can identify with that; I still have a pair of revolvers, one with brass receiver and octagonal barrel. I gave the rifles to my brother, who enjoys killing deer and antelope. He is otherwise a pretty nice guy.

There are a few of us who would rather AR-15s not be ubiquitous, and see no need for a concealed Glock on every hip during worship or classroom study - obviously very few in any forum I visit. But we exist.

Another thing that tracks - steam locomotives, vintage autos, trucks, and tractors, machine tools, and old airplanes. I think all of it is an affection for things machined or cast out of metal. I wonder if some of that keeps me from truly appreciating plastic.

That's it for today's incendiary. I understand that a lot of folks will react with revulsion - but some day we will have to grapple with issues concomitant with an armed population. Flags at half mast and prayer sessions do not seem to be working.

A "circuit" that has no interest to me whatsoever. Any thread devolves in two pages or less to exactly the same politicisation with the same characters taking the same vehemently expressed American socio-political pole. There has been nothing "interesting" about it, especially after the last election.

I looked. I couldn't find it. Some of those threads with weapons in them have been decimated.

You and I may possibly have something in common - I am personally horrified and at the same time fascinated with what happened November'16 and since. I am reading a book that starts in 1776, mostly looking at Supreme Court activities, but also covering the presidents who appoint them. There have been way worse courts than ours, but so far no previous president comes even close to Trump, as far as philosophy is concerned. There were presidential actions that go way beyond any actions we have seen from Trump, but nobody with quite the enthusiasm for autocracy that I can see.

And I kind of agree about the clubhouse. Every time I look, it turns me off. I did not know Martin had a train thread imbedded.

Bob, I think you'll find that I had mentioned "many train guys are petrolheads" in the conversation that drifted to cars. I suspect you skimmed it and that sort of melded with my liking some of the weaponry that popped up on a couple of Jon's posts. Perfectly natural, and no worries.

I really don't want to have these threads devolve into American socio-politics, even though we delightfully drift rather far afield here. If we can keep that pox contained in the Club Car Lounge, then I and probably many here can still enjoy this section without having to step carefully through a minefield of rabid fealty.

Just this once, I'll express my own personal position. Being retired after 32 years in and out of uniform, and having lived for long periods in other countries so actually knowing a little something of the world and peoples outside the borders of the US, my "politics" are not definable as left or right, liberal or conservative. They are issue based, and based on solutions to those issues that make sense, not whether they are libertarian or socialist or whatever in nature.

I find the whole polarisation of society over left and right amasing in its blindness and anger, the height of socio-stupidity. Both are equally guilty of gleefully fomenting hate. I've seen the inevitable result of it, and refuse to be part and party of it.

I used to enjoy many threads in the Lounge, and many of the sane voices from there are now gone, Hev, Dirt, &c. My disgust had me leave that section, and should the same shit turn this section into a like cesspool I'll depart just as quickly. Unless I miss my guess, I won't be alone, either.

I gave some thought to your post. There are only four or five of us here; we all seem to get along, and most tolerate my occasional liberal outbursts. There is not that much actual O Scale train activity here - most of the time threads drift into inanity. Train threads fall to the bottom.

In my opinion, we are at a very dangerous crossroad. There is normal politics, and then there is Trump. This is not normal partisan politics - and not normal conservatism. This, again in my opinion, is one of those times that we need to stand up and be counted. Even in friendly conversations.

I do that with my aviation buddies. They take it in stride - even my good buddy and student who is a "natural law" and "sovereign citizen" conservative. We get along just fine.

The world is a very different place today than even a few years ago. Had anyone but Clinton run against him, we wouldn't be having this discussion IMHO.

Thread drift is ok to a degree but mixing politics with Scale model Trains...not my cup of tea. I check in here most days in the hope somebody is showing or talking about something railroady they've built...a photo makes it even better. I've been studying car floats and ferries and may even construct one to augment my railroad, still looking for images...and I found this incredible photo.
