Minirama Cars On invaluable auction

One question is answered by the images there.....the F3 diesel is an All Nation.

Yes, Minirama used All Nation diesels. Bill Davis had several for sale about 15 years ago. I considered buying them and decided not to.

I've never been a big fan, but considering how many times the EMD cab/nose has been BUTCHERED, they did a pretty accurate looking job with theirs. Right in Bill's back yard for sure.

Hello all....yes I bought the 3 cars...dropping into Stouts a few lots before the cars went up..had a look at them.....older JC or Walthers?.... Really vintage ...and I'd guess older than the Minirama era ...nicely done full interiors ....
The other commercial pieces I own ( 1939 World Fair and 1935 T&P cars ) all have ball bearing wheels......these 3 cars do not...the trucks on the dinner are newer than the other two.

Minirama was built by some folks from Creston, IL....where Elmer Tolstead...had a huge O scale layout ....the AE&N Anywhere, Everywhere and Nowhere....first built in Maywood in the 30's ,second floor of a lodge hall....later to move to Chicago ...the n Elmer moves to Creston , lives in a Pullman car...and builds the layout in a huge in a big barn, he dies 5 years later.


All Elmer's layouts feature water and operating boats...he liked big ...first layout had a mile ? Of track....... Elmer's helpers are Ted Saunders and Bud Edwards whom I assume built Minirama...(Creston is in the middle of nowhere so limited O scale modelers to choose from).

Hope to make contact with the Minirama collector in WI to fill in some gaps.....
So the 3 cars ...unknown ...they may have been within the Minirama "stuff" that came up from Creston...to be used there .....darn few photos of Minirama out there....
I have very fond memories of visiting Minirama in the mid 60's ( age 5~7)...enjoyed chasing the trains around ...akin to visiting the museum of science and industry layout....Minirama was given a few plugs in the All Nation catalogs 1961+- and 1965...bragging about their F units in commercial service .
Time will tell...

Most were probably taken by tourists and not seen by the modeling hobby.

I thought about this car for a while but decided that it was too crude for my interests. Note that I did not (and do not) care about its provenance; to me it is just another car of a type that I like., observations/solariums, etc. I have a B&O solarium, the photo is the one from ebay, I have not taken any of my own yet. It appears to be the same kit as Carey's car:

Carey likes the older stuff. These are either Lobaugh or early Walthers. I am a Lobaugh collector, but only collect the later Walrhers 9000-series cars without nails in the sides. Good thing we are all different.

I do like the paint scheme.

Yes, it would be very upsetting to find a huge pile of geezers rolling around the floor of some meet, fighting over some old busted up train stuff! I use the term "geezer" with impunity, because I resemble that remark!

Roger, If you look at the bottom of Stouts auction pages you will find: Powered by Invaluable

So: Invaluable is the auction software that Stouts auction uses. (For online transactions of course) I am guessing they have someone entering the bids of the folks that are attending the auction.

Nice Observation-Solarium there JS Dave, does it have a car name or a prototype you are aware of? That B&O "civil war" scheme looks great on those Walther and AN composite heavy weight cars. BTW, this plan has a Walther kit#4820, if anyone has a #4831 observation let me know they're not attached to, I have a burning need for one for a CGW early post-war train in the queue.

Pullman made a heavyweight version of that car with the distinctive 3 large windows and called it a solarium. PSC did them in brass, but I don't remember them having diaphragms on the end with the 3 large windows. I think they were blunt ended. I know New York Central had them and pretty sure the PRR,

Unfortunately, I do not know if it is a true B&O prototype although the B&O did have some truly ugly solariums that had a different rear-end design. This car is lettered for "THE CAPITOL LIMITED". I agree with the color scheme as being quite nice and tasteful.
