Jay - you have given me many things, the most valued of which is the Shasta water car. Maybe even a set of MT-3 drivers. But I do not remember the Athearn set. Working on this little switcher is my first Athearn-equipped locomotive, and I am sort of impressed with the ease of working with it. My bearing inserts were too tight (even though reamed to an exact 1/4"), and I removed and replaced three of the drivers twice, polishing and stoning the axles for a smooth fit.

Here is more on the chassis that Bob is working on. It originally came to me with a Scalecraft ATSF Mikado boiler:

I had intended to build-up the model from there but changed my mind, as the chassis was not really close at all to the prototype and I have many other more deserving projects. I did discover, while looking through the early post-war Model Railroaders, that the chassis uses castings that match a set sold by Central Locomotive Works:

The ashpan casting is marked A&S for Adams and Son, which is not surprising as it is well documented that CLW used Adams castings. Note the casting set comes without motor, drivers, axles, and gears, so I don't know the story of how this chassis got built up or what the intended target model might have been.
