I could use the voltmeter, not sure about the rheostat though, depends on the price.

Looking at the photos; the observation and door castings Aterry has an interest in I suspect actually go with the extruded fluted roof and two piece sides which appear to constitute at least three or more kits from the Alexander/Midland Repro axis (which may also include Russ Briggs and or Des Planes as possible owners of these at one incarnation or another.

The "menu" for an individual kit would be one full length roof-letterboard section, one floor lower section (both fluted) two 3/8" inch strip either cut for window plan or not, two end castings (either flat/observation), with or without a pair doors if the car plan had vestibules.
There also appear to be some AMT extruded sides too, which are more problematic without the interlocking roof piece.
None of these look like they have any window plans milled into the sides. The Midlands do make nice cars though, if you can get a clean cut/mill on the windows based on a car plan. Neat stuff (I'm a guilty sucker for this kind of "debris trail" as I visit to my basement will attest)

Tom, I'll mark you down for the voltmeter, and perhaps the rheostat.
Pete,
I didn't really dig through the second box of passenger car kits like the walthers, so I can't say for sure that the window strips weren't in there. But most everything extruded aluminum seemed to reside in the first box, and I only saw one or two window strips in that box. In conversation, the owner said that there had been some strips of aluminum in the house, but he didn't know what they were, and he just threw them out. I fear that those were the window blanks for the Mac cars. If so, then somebody will need to take Terry up on his offer, or come up with some other solution. By the way, the "inventory" that was with the extrusions says they are Alexander kits, for what that's worth.

Sort of a puzzling collection. If in fact he was an O Scaler of any interest at all, I would say that the good stuff got sold.

Bob, I'm guessing that all you are seeing is the part of the collection that didn't appear to have immediate value when the house was cleaned out.
The situation is odd. The original owner was well known in local modeling circles. I knew him when I was a kid, although I think he had already passed away by the time i came back to town. But I know from conversations with local modelers that I hang around with now, that there was more to the collection, at least rolling stock and motive power. I dont know what happened to everything else, but I have the impression that other local modelers were not necessarily involved in clearing out the train stuff. They seemed surprised when I told them about this small cache of items, and who it originally belonged to, and how it ended up where it is now.
Maybe the family took everything deemed ready for sale and turned it over to a Trainz type liquidator. Nobody that I talk to seems to know the full story. But there's really nobody else around here doing 2 rail that would have the stuff.
I'm really just trying to keep some stuff, that might have value to somebody, from ending up in the trash.

Hi Jon,2railjon wrote:I’ll take the trucks if the price is right!
Do you still have an interest in these trucks? I sent you an email through the the forum, but I never saw a response, so I thought I would double check here.
Thanks,
Jim
