I never got to hold those in my ham fisted hands. Everytime i got one out it flew across the room. I tried to tape a line of them together. Thinking that the tape would keep them from flying away. It did. It also broke them in half as i pulled them off the tape. Every so often now i find them in the vacuum cleaner.

Intermountain kits are easy compared to others.
I just put together a Chooch resin PRR x26 boxcar body. varying thickness of the panels, non-square corners, curling of body panels, and sides of unequal length tested my patience.
it took gentle heating to flatten them, and judicious filing, to get the body together looking like an actual x26.
oh, did I mention drilling the holes?!

Smaller hemostat works well for such bits and/or a small lockable set of tweezers

Turned out nicely Jon, well done. I like these Intermountain kits, the details and the screening is really sharp and again all those leftover detail goodies on the sprues are a bonus too.
I have to go with (PRR Man) Chris on the trial of building resin kits. Maroon built two of the Chooch wood sheathed box cars for me and I believe he had to use a thick plate of glass as a defacto scale table to get them to "square" up with beaucoup sanding etc..
Years later (most foolishly) I built a NE Caboose kit by West Shore Line (Central Hobby Supply) and that was an ordeal for the ages, though once done (opinion) it is light years better looking than the factory Weaver version, as in not even close. But oooooo the hand rails, must have spent $30 on twist drill bits. I have finished a variety of Q-Car bodies too and even built up they're no walk in the park to finish either.

I've been tempted by those Island Model Works Long Island MP-72's, M-70 Duplexes and P-54 carbodies but am curious if they're as cranky as these older kits. Also if the casting medium is a fracture prone/brittle as say Q-Car or Chooch.

Late to the party here. I am in the middle of building a Mullet River NYC caboose. Pretty much agree with the comments especially about trying to think a few steps ahead. I started this last spring, then set it down for about 6 months. I had to redo a few steps as it wasn't obvious what the intent of the making the sections the way it was intended. This is my basic training car, next one will be easier. No photo hosting site so I can't post pics.
Nice work on the PFE reefer Jon. I have always been a fan of Intermountain having built over fifty of their kits in HO and about a dozen in O scale. Still have another dozen on the shelf to do.

Yes, I enjoy the IM kits too, I just wish they weren't so fragile when completed. You have to swap out the plastic details with metal or handle them with extreme care when completed.
