Louis Bartig Collection Sold

Tom Mix's collection is being sold off. I am not sure of Colonel Mix's status, or why the collection is being sold. As noted on the links, they are P48.

I wasn't being intentionally cryptic....what I posted was what I had. I have NO idea what the quantity of models might be, and why the lack of information to date. I am guessing that many of them might have "disappeared" at Chicago. Might be the same scenario as the Bartig stuff, where one person stepped up and scooped them all up.

Recalling that YOU mentioned being at Chicago, did you see anything of them? Being an OW5 guy, they are of only academic interest to me despite their cachet.

This stuff is art, and these guys are artists. I, too, will be interested in how these estates go. I always proceed as if my "stuff" will be worthless when I croak, especially the models using a non-standard gauge. "Art" does not always attain its full value on initial sale.

I do consider my efforts as art, too, but not anywhere near the class of Bartig or Mix. They are in a class by themselves. Other artists include Bergman and Schrader, even though their work starts with finished and very detailed high end models. And lest we forget, our local artist is Erik, who is an artist for real as well as in imagery.

Jay, too is an artist. Putting together these fine mechanisms one at a time is indeed art. Not to mention the finished models he is producing.

I applaud the Proto-48 crowd, although I cannot (due to a lack of skill) join them. I wonder what the resale is on a nice Proto-48 brass import?

You have made the 1st mention of this to my knowledge. Completely new to me.

Reading that, I figured some of Colonel Mix's stuff was at the March Meet.

As you mentioned you were going to the March Meet on behalf of OST, I thought maybe you had possibly seen his stuff on display.

I attended the Friday nite P:48 event in Chicago - no engines were displayed and I don't recall anyone mentioning them. I walked the hall a couple of times, but did not scrutinize Jack's table - wish I had, but something tells me these are north of what I want to pay for an engine that's not true to my prototype (MoPac).

I just heard back from Jack - he's still working on the descriptions and prices. Once compiled, he'll post the complete list on his website. Sales will be first come-first served. If you have an interest, drop him a note.

I know Col. Mix was a builder of some renown and that's about where my knowledge stops. I think it is pretty safe that I will be a bystander on any sales of his items. It will be interesting to see what is there, regardless.

Not on the list, but there were additional models on the layout that were not on the original list. We'll all know shortly.
