I read the thread over on NK in which Bob was attacked. It is rather fascinating (in the way that train wrecks are fascinating!) The customers who are still awaiting their models are acting a lot like how victims of affinity fraud act. The customers are obviously invested financially, but they have also become quite emotionally invested as well -- they keep trying to work things out with the manufacturer instead of demanding their money back or pursuing legal remedies. When other posters point out that things aren't right, the customers immediately attack the other posters and point out that they're not customers, they don't know what they're talking about, etc.
I do
not have any reason to believe that MMW is a scam. However, seeing how emotionally invested MMW's customers are in these models gives me a new appreciation for Madoff's victims and how emotionally invested they must have been after receiving their fraudulent account statements showing they were worth millions!
Years ago -- probably a decade ago, actually -- I considered putting down a deposit on a MMW diesel or two, but then I decided against it because all of my other models were "good enough" pieces that I am capable of working on and maintaining myself. Right now I'm glad that I passed on the MMW diesels, but I'll probably regret my decision when the models finally do turn up.
Hmm. I wonder how many of the MMW models will ultimately end up being delivered to their buyers' estates?
