Best glue to bond metal to glass

Postby up148 » Mon Sep 08, 2025 9:02 am

Title pretty much says it all, but hoping some member has had a good experience with a particular glue.

I glued some copper disc onto the flat spotlights in my yard. The LED lights are too bright and they are not dimmable, so by gluing 1-1/2" copper slugs/discs to the flat glass lens it cut the light down to where I need it. I tried Gorilla Glue, but either the heat from the sun or the LED lights (yes they get hot) remelted the glue and allowed the discs to slide from the center of the light to the bottom.

So, looking for suggestions. Looking online is a joke, as they ALL say they will do the job, but false advertising today is rampant.

Metal (smooth) to glass (smooth) is generally straightforward but then again, is this an outdoor or layout situation?

Outdoor flood lights pointed up to shine on trees and house. Flat smooth glass lens.

Got a glue for metal and glass coming tomorrow so we'll see how it does.

The deception online is monumental. One product tis offered as Looctite instead of Loctite. F'ing scumbags of the world. :(

Wow, I wish I would have seen that before I ordered the other Bob. Going to their website it is a remarkable glue.

You can also place window screen in front of your light. Windows dont keep out UV light. Screens do. I can my lights a mist of paint. Same for the ones on the street. A little pvc pipe and a brush. Some what of a local hero for that act.

Good idea! My display lights are a 16 foot tape with LEDs. They put out an intense, unattractive almost blue light. Do you think a brush coat of yellow would soften it up?

They do illuminate the models for study, but I cannot leave them on and enjoy the rest of the room.

We hate the brilliant blue/white LED's as well and try to buy 2700-3000 K warm white lights. Last year I bought some replacement LED bulbs for some display cases and they were too white, so I bought a can of this clear paint and sprayed the outside of the bulbs and it worked.

But, these were bulbs not LED on a strip or tape. I suppose it would work.

They do Rich, you're right. But, I like to do my research on the computer and then decide. I guess is boils down to sorting through the misinformation and lies and then reading reviews and then finally decide......I can't do that as easily standing in the store. Most of the time, by the time I decide which way to jump, I just order from Amazon since we get free shipping...........color me lazy.

I got the glue yesterday, but I had to dig down on both sides of our driveway this morning to find a "hoped for" conduit that should have been laid before the driveway was poured. It was and I found it :D and pulled some wires for low voltage light my better half wants.......but I'm a pooped out puppy.

This used to be a 2 hour job and I'd still have energy to do more yard projects the same day. But, being in my upper 70's, it doesn't work that way anymore and this will be it for the day.....after I go back and fill in the holes and respread the gravel now.

Tired Butch.

I can't imagine doing this in my mid 80's Pete, but when I was younger I would have thought mid 70's would have been impossible. Funny how that timeline changes the older we get. :)
