Do we need to make this more attractive?
Re: Do we need to make this more attractive?
No, Butch, no more than any other action you take using your computer or phone. The photo is now hosted by their computer; sent there in a data packet from yours.
You have copied the data that is your photo and loaded it onto MTJ's server, just as the text you see in your post is downloaded data to MTJ's server. Same thing.

And at 107,000 "non-modelling" posts archived versus only some 46,000 posts archived for all the other sub-forums combined, think how many more photos the current server could host if Clubcar was given the ol' heave-ho and MTJ was recast as a train forum with upgraded security software and a new sub-forum index.
Re: Do we need to make this more attractive?
Nice modeling there. The track and ballast are on point. Ive never quite been able to get the right look on my ballast, probably because I’m using a straight color and not a mix. I recently mixed a section on my pike that looks much better. The third rail probably doesn’t help either.
Re: Do we need to make this more attractive?
The chair and bullhead rail is the earmark of Sarge. Is that your layout?

Nice photo. Great detail. I have a habit of making my rusted rail reddish. Almost as if they were kissed by a clown. Even when i use darker pigments. It comes out red.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

That is the goal. Didn't give the Club car much thought, but booting it from the forum would be a win at many levels.

Sarge has been holding out on us - that scene is gorgeous! All he needs is a Hudson or K-11.

Alright Bob. This is a pic posting lesson for the future of this forum. Your turn!

Re: Do we need to make this more attractive?
No - currently it is exactly like Sarge says - you go to the bottom where it says "Options" and "Attachments" just below the box where you type.
Hit "Attachments" and it tells you what to do - usually select "Add files" and click on a photo in your file. It will then ask if you want it in-line.
Let me make sure . . . Yeah, click "Place inline
And you are done

I remember it was like this when I first joined years ago, but I guess the fact the resources were overwhelmed it no longer worked. Wonderful to have it back.
Re: Do we need to make this more attractive?
You guys might want to dial back the size of the files you're attaching; I would think a photo file around 300kb would be sufficient. Not doing so will likely blot up the site's allocated space for attachments rather quickly.
Re: Do we need to make this more attractive?
...which brings us back neatly to the site itself.
Server capacity is the issue. In order to be able to post photos of the density generated by the current iPhone without going through an image reduction process, the capacity and its allocation needs a revisit. I doubt if they've changed since maybe 2006 or so when a 1 meg photo was pushing the envelope on DSLRs. I don't know how large the memory allocations are; I'd suspect Lee does. I also don't know the settings, whether the ability to add photos ceases when full or the oldest data drops out the bottom when new data is added to the top.
Of course, going to solely trains content frees up a lot of space that could be re-allocated to accommodate modern image sizes.
The option is there for using third party hosting like imgBB or downloading some sort of app to your phone that reduces image size before posting to MTJ, but that rather defeats the point of the easy and user friendly uploading that was already designed into the software.
Capacity and its allocation are something you'll need to talk to Lee about.
