Builder's Mark
Which doorstop manufacturer used a triangle, raised, cast in, on smokebox sides?
Point up.
Acme?
TNX

Dunno - what happened to your query about that Megow Consolidation?

Re: Builder's Mark
trying to figure it out. Listed as Lobaugh/ScaleCraft/All-Nation.
Pixx poor casting quality.
Did Megow have vertical motors in the cab, running to rear axle?
And a worm gear rivetted to a brass plate?

Re: Builder's Mark
I have only seen one, but yeah, looks like the NYC "Megow." Maroon may have done an article - the lineage threads through well known O Scale suppliers of the 1930s. Opinion -$200 at the outside - collector value only.
Some sellers just put words in the title so you catch it in a search. Nobody searches for Megow.

Re: Builder's Mark
Jimmy sent me a photo of a Megow. That ain't a Megow.
Casting is horrible on offered unit.
Offered is vertical motor on #4 axle, the photo is angled DC permag on #3 axle.
Front cab windows on Jimmy's, cab side windows, turret cover, stack, running boards look too fine and must be applied, not cast.
Side rods totally different construction.
Valve hanger looks similar, no smokebox support rods on ebay, but has ladders. Jimmy's has rods and no ladders.
I'll send you a photo.

Re: Builder's Mark
I blew up Jimmy's Megow photo, changed brightness, the cab is brass and separate from boiler, unlike the horrid ebait unit

ACME is getting close.
https://www.binnsroad.co.uk/railways/acmeoh/index.html
Third photo down, note the dead flat leading edge of the tender water legs.
Same as the ebait one.
That catalog does not show a 2-8-0.
The triangle on smoke box.."A" for ACME?

Fourth photo down. I know of someone who had a cast Al PRR P5A, he did not know who made it but thought ScaleCraft; it could have been an ACME (if they were ever produced). BTW, it was a decent runner.

Re: Builder's Mark
I received an email from a fellow who has helped me out in some of my projects; very much like "our own" Bob Turner.
Anyway, he is not a member of this group, but asked me to relay the info that the "triangle" builder's plate was typically used by Jerry White...he included a short video from Carey Williams of a White 4-6-0, but I don't know how to "share" a video...I bet it's on Carey's YouTube channel.

Boy. That can't be a Jerry White. Our mark is clearer under tender, looks much more like an "A"

Re: Builder's Mark
Jerry's stuff was crisp and clean.
Clue on the ebait unit...look at the corners between running boards and boiler, boiler and cab.
The radius or fillet it HUGE, pixx poor casting.
Look at the boiler bands. No edge definition.
MIGHT be 1/8" of paint, but chips don't indicate that thickness.
Engineering-wise, nobody with any sense runs more than two drive axle units from an end axle.
Might work right out of the box, but the force and wear driving from one end....it will start cogging.
This is not an engine to run regularly and depend upon.
Nice to show how not to do it.
If it is Acme, I think they made engines in the late 30's for two years. Historians might have some better data.

Re: Builder's Mark
Lobaugh routinely drove three axles from the end. So did Scale Craft in the beginning.
I agree - better to drive from the middle axle.
Lobaugh and Scale Craft Pacifics, Lobaugh Challengers rear axle, and Lobaugh 0-6-0.
There is always Thomas?
