Those darn imports...1936

Postby Carey Williams » Tue Dec 25, 2018 12:59 am

Hello O scale world...

Japanese imports began to change the O scale world at the end of the 40's with International .
So it looks like someone was importing prewar in 1936.
There was a domestic toy train market in Japan in the 30's.,many times makers copied Lionel or Ives pieces. So has anyone seen prewar imported O scale ? Here we have an article found in November Model Craftsman by Charles Penn warning modelers of the evil that lurks when buying imports.
Cheers Carey

I have some really early Japanese made engines, but they didn't date them so I don't know if they are pre-war; I expect not. I guess I missed Charlie's comments, but anyway, I bought them about 15 years ago.

Charlie's comments are in his regular column called Plain Talk on page 50 of the 11/36 issue. He also announced an HO contest; HO can you believe... How Ordinary. He also says "OF, model railroaders alone are not numerous enough to support a magazine of this size;..." This only a few years before the name of the magazine was changed to Railroad Model Craftsman.

I support thread drift.
