Anyone have one of these Yoder models? I'm curious how quiet the drive is using a transfer transmission as they usually are not that quiet...........

I have one of these S12 from Yoder, and have remotored it with a Pittman to replace the lousy Canon motor originally supplied with it. I also added a slow speed pulley and belt from Jay Criswell to add a bit of slow speed enhancement. I have a Tsunami decoder in it to add some operational enjoyment to it. It is not the quietest locomotive I own, and frankly I prefer to run it with sound on to help drown out the "as mfg" noise this mechanism makes on mine.

Yeah, not one of his best efforts but still a nice model. I did a completely new drive on two of them for a friend. The most difficult part was getting rid of the tower drive and placing everything above the frame. A very tight squeeze. Didn't end up bullet proof though, for various reasons I had to replace a belt in both of them. We're keeping an eye on both to make sure it doesn't happen again. If it does I guess we'll have to go to "Plan C" or even Plan Nine From Mars.

I have a couple of the Espee (washer-dryer) versions and have no complaints.
Have heard (from unremembered sources ) that there is some inconsistency
in the quality-control of these, with units being either good/acceptable or
having enough problems to warrant a complete drive transplant....
Sometimes it's really the luck of the draw in which you get....
