How does a quote that includes a photo affect this situation?
That seems to be done a lot.

Like Burner says. And it isn't one person, rather a piling on of everybody who puts the photos on MTJ rather than linking from elsewhere.
Pull some down, free up some space, use it or somebody else will fill it in the next five minutes.
Going to take a MAJOR housecleaning to get it back.

After last purge, we were one or two pages in each forum. Currently, 2-rail has 16 pages, back to Mon Jan 19, 2015. So, we went 2-1/2 years since the last purge.

I gave up doing long threads after the last purge.

It could be automatic - a trivial subroutine.

Could. Tie it to the clock/calendar.

There are tons of threads that no-one looks at. If a thread remained without anybody looking at it for, say, six months, maybe it should drop off automatically. It is like magazines - most of us do not save old Time magazines or the WSJ.

I don't hink it should be up to us to go back and delete. It could be automatic - a trivial subroutine.

Opinion.

I like that Idea and will go back and delete and threads that are old. They can always be restarted. Or I can just delete the photos which leads to the a couple of questions.

(1) I can't find the tool for deleting an entire thread, that I started. Is it even possible or can I only delete my posts to a thread, even if I started it.

(2) When others respond to a thread with a quote and don't eliminate the photos from the quote, does it take up more photo file space or does it you the same photo(s) again and the original designated space?

If this is simply a matter of just actual storage space for photos, then I do not think that responding and replicating posted photos would matter. If it's also question of limited bandwidth for posting photos inherent to the forum software, then yes.

Don't believe that you can delete threads, particularly once responded to by others.

The LAST post in a thread can be deleted by the person that posted it. I'm guessing that if they who posted in the thread deleted their posts in reverse order, the thread could be removed. Not a very likely scenario!

That definition makes me think the issue is solely memory, but I'm NO guru by any stretch!!!

It is my understanding that memory is relatively cheap these days. If that is the issue, maybe a donation from members to Bill, to purchase more would be the way to go, as opposed to perpetually "feeding" 3rd party hosting sites.

I don't know of MTJ has a personal limit (they probably should think about that). There is a total limit, some folks use a whole lot more than others, and I don't know if we were told last purge what the limit is for the whole site.

So when we start seeing the notices about the board quota, it isn't personal (I don't think) rather total, and everybody will get the message.

Yup - was looking at a 4Tb drive for under $79 just a few days ago

It may be a function/limitation of the software for the forum.

I went to Photobucket sometime in 2015 and I really have no complaints, I don't mind the charge and by paying I don't have to deal with the pop-ups and like dreck. Pretty efficient too, I figured since I do post a lot of photos here it was the right thing to do. And I do keep my photos on a storage drive and only post to the PB what I intend to share on public servers
