Why not look around to see if data exists on this logo? Maybe Broadway Limited themselves would help you out, since apparently they got the logo somewhere.

If they are of no help, I'd try some HO forums to find someone with this locomotive and ask them to take a macro (very up close, hi-res) photo of the logo and then use that to redraw the vector art.

The logo Jim created is about as good as they get. I would say it is time to let the decal guy just do it. However, neither of the decal guys I am aware of right now are doing much in the way of custom stuff.

Well, I'm in Cincinnati now, so only 3 hours away from Boonville, Indiana. I could go take pictures. Of course according to wikipedia the railroad no longer rosters the u36c's, so it would likely be a wasted trip.

Maybe you could get a hold of Respondek as they now own the railroad. Maybe there's an old piece of company letterhead laying around or something like that. Or some photos. Worth a shot if you're passionate enough about it.

The font on this engines herald appears to a be trade marked design called Railroad Gothic. I bought a decal sheet off ebay in ho, red, couldn't find any in O. Is it possible to have this sheet enlarged to O sizes? I mean create a new decal sheet. The max height of the letters on the sheet (Microscale) is for a 16" prototype letter. I need the height of the Squaw Creek (model) to be 6/32".

BTW I don't leave for Quito, Equador until June 1 2016.

Also Marron did a great job on the cab herald, he always is stepping up to help me.

The decals can be scanned in, enlarged, and reprinted. I can provide directions on how to proceed. An easier way might be to find a suitably close font. There is a knock-off of Railroad Gothic available on line. I think the letters are too "blocky" compared to the prototype. I printed it with two other choices. The Railroad Gothic knock-off is first:

The second font is everyday Arial. Less blocky but the letters seem a bit too wide. The third choice is Arial Narrow. I think that is very close.

Note that the character spacing has been increased a bit on all of these to better match the prototype.

These are vector graphic fonts so they will print sharp. Color, size, and character spacing can be adjusted.

Wow, that is a "brutish" looking unit.

Is it just me, or does a high-nose U-Boat look just a little odd...? (I think it's the fact that the nose is so short...)

Good, I think the bottom one is good. Notice the " Q" on the second one is round where the prototype is compressed. The top one is more like that picture of the Alligator that was posted earlier, way too fat. This morning I used the quarter view of the engine you all see on this thread and tried to get a size for the model, drew it on the body actually. Came up with a rectangle 4 and 3/8" long and 6/16" high divided by 10 letters and one space. 11 almost square boxes .3977" wide or close to 6/16" wide. The space between the Squaw and Creek looks to be the same size as the letters.

I think we have a plan here. If I can get someone to make decals. Also if anyone here wants some I will give them free.

This thing is so handsome if I had any room I would be doing just exactly what Allan is doing. I am a copycat. I really am duplicating oneof Maroon's Diesels - a purple one!

I will scale up the lettering to match your size as close as possible and then print a test sheet to PDF and send your way. You can then print it out to check it. Once we get it sized correctly then we can print to a decal sheet. If the results are not satisfactory then we can search for a real decal printer.

How big should the herald be?

And for what it is worth I have never seen the dimension 6/16" before. It is of course perfectly good but it threw me a little.

The max outside diameter of the Squaw cab herald should be 1/2". Also maybe 7/16" on the letter height instead of 6/16"

Allan, I have emailed you both word and PDF versions of this decal test sheet (shown smaller than actual size here):

Print out either or both and let me know which text and which herald are closest to the correct size. The 27 point is 12/32", the 29.5 point is 13/32", and the 31.5 is 14/32" (dimensions approximate). I have not tried to measure the heralds. The numbers indicate the percentage size of the image relative to my working image.

If we need to make adjustments to the text or herald just let me know. Also let me know if you think the printed versions are not going to work for some reason (smudged or something).
