I'm 80 today, when I started my model RR I never thought it wouldn't be farther along than it is now, It should be senicked and done but it is still open grid with no scenery at all. And now its getting easier and easier to put off working on it.
I did take about 15 years off to work on my first real love hot rods and sports cars.

Re: Hobo Jungle
Congrats on reaching 80. No time like the present to get cracking on that layout!
Re: Hobo Jungle
Congratulations Vega!!! I'm 6 years behind you and hoping to make it to 80 and beyond......my parents did it. I'm going through the same quandary with trains and cars as you did and I also absolutely love working in the yard. So this time of year trains have been taking a distant 3rd place. But, I got a much needed (obviously) stent 3 weeks ago and energy is returning, so I have big hopes and plans for projects that have been put off for a couple of years....I thought the lack of energy was from the chemo treatments the summer before last, but hopefully not. So, I'm hoping to be back on the "good foot" and enjoy my first health issue free summer in 3 years. Knock on wood.

Scenery is pretty easy and open grid makes it more fun since you can incorporate all sorts of 3D terrain. Once you get started it's kind of addictive and you can plow through a lot of area pretty quickly. Structures are different story. If you have them sitting about ready to go, then they are pretty easy to add into the mix. Buying them at shows and meets is usually a pretty good deal; could have filled a car with the ones ready to plop on a layout that were for sale at Harrisburg last Sat.

Re: Hobo Jungle
The butterfly was found in Hestand, Kentucky. While I was photographing the butterfly the Amish were busy going hither and yon on all sides of me. This hay wagon went by on the nearby road, one way empty and returning full of hay, over and over for the two hours I was at the location.

There is danger in the Hobo Jungle for small things.
This hummingbird wonders, "What kind of hummingbird is that? Is it safe to land on the nectar bar?"
